I visited homegrown with my boyfriend, it’s one of our favorites, the fries and chips are always great and I love their burgers. However, they are a bit pricey but most of their food is amazing. I usually always get the dirty burger which is to die for, if you do plan on getting that, go on an empty stomach.

I love this place - I go out of my way any time I’m traveling in this area to visit and get a haul for takeout. So many fantastic vegan options - I love the Mac (regular or pumpkin, depending on the season), gardenator burger, beet wrap, and banh mi, to name a few. The staff is super nice and parking is simple on the side streets.

Our server was friendly and attentive. My omelet was large (I took half home). Almost too loud to hear my friend with table of 6 right next to us. I would go again, but during a less busy time.

I recently met two friends at Home Grown for lunch & we had a great time there. We shared the Cauliflower wings with plum pepper sauce & it was delicious. I chose the lunch special which included a cup of soup, half sandwich & side salad. It was excellent & a very good value. One friend got the classic burger that was cooked perfectly. The other friend had the falafel sandwich which she said was delicious. Our server Claire was helpful with menu selections & attentive but not overbearing as she could see that we were busy talking & catching up with each other. There were a good number of people seated in our area but the noise level was low. It was a great lunch break & we plan to visit again soon.

Staff and service was great. The presentation of the food was great. Our appetizer was good - hummas. The our main courses were the Cobb salads, french toast, and the burrito - all were okay. The restaurant serves large portions.

Home Grown Cafe on Main Street, Newark, DE, is exactly what its name states - a locally owned and operated college town foodery and drinkery dedicated to providing quality and fresh approaches to restauranting for the people surrounding the University of Delaware. My son, a senior at the school majoring in engineering, chose to go there when I stopped to see him on a return trip from Virginia to Bucks County. While it wasn't overly crowded when we walked in around 5, it was very much so by the time we left 90 minutes later. We sat in a booth in view of the bar, and were served well by the competent attractive server. My son ordered the Cheesesteak Banh Mi with Sweet Potato Fries, while I was enticed by Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer and Beet Salad. Everything was very good to excellent, with special mention to the Vietnamese sammy and beet salad. While I love Brussels, I found this iteration to be strong on the expected bitterness, but lacking a little sweetness via vinegar or dried fruit to offset the dominant flavor. Leftovers were bagged for later consumption by the young lad. Given the majority of less than sterling food options in Newark, Home Grown Cafe is a welcome high point for this university community. Just a shame I only made it here in my son's final year at UDel.

I can't say enough good about this place. I was working in Newark for two weeks, tried a lot of different establishments since I essentially had to eat out every night. Home Grown really stuck with me. From the moment I was greeted, seated, to being handed the receipt, it was wonderful. Their portions are very generous and I couldn't really walk too well when I left, lol. I started with the southwestern chili, which ate like a meal in it's self. Then, onto the roast beef club, which was about twice the size I anticipated. I still wanted dessert, though. I tried their dark chocolate budino. Had my mind set on that before I ordered. I'll be driving back up to Home Grown again despite living 75 miles away.

The website states “$1.00 to-go charge for orders $25 or more” yet I keep getting charged the fee for orders less than $25… keep the dollar. I won’t eat here again. Who charges (or points it out on the receipt) for to-go boxes???

On Friday, February 16, I was invited to lunch at Homegrown with five other ladies in their late 60s early 70s. Two of us arrived at 11:45 for our 12 PM reservation. The restaurant was almost empty and I could see our table set with menus and water. The manager, Tyler, said he would not seat the two of us, until at least half of the party arrived. We pointed out that our table was ready and they were not busy, so could he reconsider and allow us to wait at our table for the others. He again said no, we needed to wait in the foyer area. Another patron came in and was speaking with us and I told her why we were standing there and not seated. Tyler came back and looked at me and said if I complained again, he would not seat me at all. I was appalled at his audacity and rudeness. I would have left immediately, but needed to stay in order to meet the other four ladies that were coming l. I told him that I was going to be writing a review and calling the owner of the restaurant. Due to his impertinence and rude behavior - I do not plan to frequent this restaurant again. on another note, the food was very tasty and our server did a great job. The owner should consider sending Tyler to a class to learn how to communicate with customers. He is very attitude and disrespectful. L

We stopped in for dinner on Saturday and were told there was 30 minute wait. The manager pointed out there were two seats at the bar, which was good with us. The food and drinks were great, and bartenders did a great job.

I've been twice now and both times delicious! The menu changes seasonally but I had biscuits and gravy, breakfast plate, and mushroom soup. Sooo good!
