Is this the best Chinese food I've ever had? No. Is it comfort food through and through? Absolutely. This little hole in the wall spot has been here for 30 years. It (currently) has no sign, very little atmosphere, and nothing that you won't see on menus for similar places. What it has is consistency. Decades of steady orders. Of pleasing the community. Of feeding hungry UD students and busy families night after night. As a student my regular order was beef chow fun or mu shu chicken with an order of steamed dumplings. My recent visit reunited me with the dumplings, but with a different choice for my main meal. My General Tsao's chicken was tasty enough to know that it must be a crowd pleaser. The dumplings were just as I remembered them, doughy and sweet and just what I wanted. I appreciated their commitment to safety. There was no dine in available when I went, but my order was taken and handed over with care. Gloves and masks were evident and what I saw of the interior was clean. This restaurant will always be a part of my college experience. My then boyfriend and I shared an order of the steamed dumplings almost every weekend during my senior year. This time we ate our dumplings in the front seat of our car, which is as close as I guess we will get to the scratchy fabric of a dorm room loveseat. It was a familiar meal shared with my partner, and was a lovely reminder of the joys of consistency.

The New Number One Chinese Restaurant has been an old favorite for a very long time. How long? I ordered takeout from them in 1991. I again ordered from them just the other day, when I was passing through the area. I have had the privilege of eating Chinese food all over the country, and during one trip I had Chinese food in China. Number One does not disappoint. This is classic take out Chinese food. It is not a fancy sit down restaurant. It's take out, take home, and enjoy. They are consistent. Nothing adventurous. Nothing crazy. Nothing too spicy (for most people). Nothing bad. Just consistently decent food. This may not seem like much, but you try maintaining a standard for three decades. They have adapted to the pandemic of 2020. Call in your food order. Once your food is ready, it will be placed on a table on the other side of the front door. Take the napkins, condiments, and utensils you need, and wave from a distance. Fast fast food and quick & friendly service.

Rude service, and the food was very bland. I stopped because it was on my way home, I should have taken the time to go to a good Chinese restaurant.

I only picked up a order here so I have no remarks on the food but, from my experience it's just a ordinary takeout

Hands down the best Chinese when making a commute up 896 into PA from Newark, De. They are in the newly renovated Fairfield shopping center with the Food Lion. They have been there for years and incredibly , the owner recognizes voices and knows my order when I call. Very conscientious owners and staff!

The food here is honestly not good. I gave two attempts as the first time I thought maybe it was just a one time bad meal. Everyone I know that has tried this place feels the same.
