Oishii never disappoints! From the sushi rolls to the hibachi, everything is so flavorful and always hits the spot. The price is also extremely cheap compared to any other place on Main Street. For any K-pop fans, they have started playing bands like boynextdoor, txt, enhypen, etc. inside. Overall, this place is a hidden gem and I highly recommend coming here!

Tucked just steps away from the University of Delaware campus, Oishii Japanese Restaurant lives up to its name—“oishii” meaning “delicious” in Japanese—by serving some of the most flavorful and authentic Japanese cuisine in the area. Whether you’re a student grabbing a quick sushi roll between classes or a local looking for a relaxed, high-quality dining experience, Oishii delivers consistently on taste, service, and value.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere strikes a balance between cozy and modern. It’s clean, inviting, and unpretentious—perfect for a casual dinner or a special night out. The staff are friendly, quick to greet you, and always happy to recommend dishes or explain ingredients.

Our server “Emily” was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. She checked in regularly without being intrusive and made sure our drinks were always full and our meals came out just right.

The sushi here is the real star. The fish is fresh, generously portioned, and artfully presented. Favorites include the UD Roll—spicy tuna and avocado topped with seared salmon and eel sauce—and the Volcano Roll, which is an absolute delight and packed with flavor. If you’re not into sushi, the kitchen menu is just as impressive. The chicken katsu is crisp and tender, the ramen is hearty and comforting, and the bento boxes offer great variety for the price.

Portions are generous, and everything feels thoughtfully prepared. Even the miso soup and side salads are above average—fresh, flavorful, and never an afterthought.

Prices are student-friendly, especially considering the quality of ingredients. It’s no surprise Oishii has built a loyal following in Newark. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or a newcomer to Japanese cuisine, Oishii is a must-visit.

Don’t try. The seafood there is far from fresh—the oyster had a bad smell, and I had to rinse my mouth after trying one. The noodles were low-quality, similar to instant noodles, and not up to the standard of other restaurants on the main streets.

The waiter was very rude to us without a cause, he should not work in a place like that if he doesn’t like people. If it wasn’t for my little kids eating their food I would have left sooner.

The signature rolls are to diiiie for.
I would give up my own limbs for the sushi here it is so delicious 😋
The cajun menu on the other hand, is an absolute MISS 😞
Do not order cajun food, order the SPECIAL sushi rolls...
They are certainly an affront to clasic sushi enthusiasts but it's trendy and young so it works 👌🏼
Had some great dinners here with a great person a few times :)

Parking: Paid street parking but if you're just picking up an order you'll be fine.

Randomly came upon this mom-and-pop Japanese/cajun-seafood eatery. Had the Bento box last night and the Crawfish-Mussels Cajun Combo with sausage, corn, potatoes thrown-in, tonight. Sauce comes in Cajun, Garlic Butter, Old Bay, and Oishii Ocean Blend, with different spice levels.

Amazing how far Newark has come and such blessings for UDel students (and Newark community at large) to have eateries like this - ‘tis da bomb ??

Also heartening to know in my small ways I’m supporting this hardworking immigrant couple (resto owners), Jane and _____, to realize their American dreams ?

I give 5-stars emotionally and to support these culinary ‘treps, but I can understand eaters giving 4-stars for ambience, food, and service coz there’s only so much a husband-wife duo can do on their own; meaning, 5-star Ritz Carlton’s and 5-star of this lovely entrepreneurial joint isn’t comparing apples-to-apples.

Emotionally I’ll give this place 6-stars any day outta sheer desire to see them succeed; they deserve it - always root for the underdogs ?

Parking: I parked on Main Street and paid the meter just in case.
