Clean friendly place to grab a cold drink and some good food. Albeit the prices are little but steep, but it's right by hotels, what do you expect.

Bartenders Cass and Widjen were awesome! It was my first time there for brunch this Saturday. I had the egg sandwich and my husband had the eggs Benedict.The food was delicious and came out quickly. The portion sizes were generous, so we even had leftovers. Our Bloody Marys were absolute perfection. Both girls were friendly, and attentive even with a full bar. This is my new brunch spot.

On a Friday, me and my boyfriend stopped in looking to have an enjoyable evening out. Upon arrival we were barely acknowledged and when we were, it seemed like our waitress barely wanted to interact with us. Super unwelcoming, and when she brought my drink she slammed it down and said nothing. To say my drink was disgusting is highly an understatement as I couldn’t even finish it. We wanted to cancel our order and just leave, and our waitress said we still had to pay even though our (highly likely) frozen calamari wasn’t even out to us yet. Safe to say we’ll never be back. Save your time, and your sanity. I’d give it a zero if I could.

My wife and I stopped in a few days ago, we are traveling and unfamiliar with the area. We were a little hesitant, read that Newark was a big college town. The food was very good, but it was the service that really touched us. Our waitress, Widgen took such genuine care of us. My wife has several dietary restrictions, and is extremely anxious at new restaurants, but the young lady sat with us, looked over the menu, and made her feel completely at ease. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my wife relax like that while dining out. Another nice waitress came by to check on us as well and mentioned she was training widjin — which amazed us, because both of them carried themselves with such professionalism.
I rarely ever write reviews, but this visit stayed with us. We’re from the West Coast, and after 30 years of marriage, my wife and I agreed this was one of the sweetest dates we’ve had in a long time. The food, the service, the warmth of the place — it all made us feel young again. Definitely check it out.

This place is a bit of a college bar mixed with a restaurant and not really great at either...the food had good taste but was served cold. The service wasn't terrible they were a bit understaffed for the crowd they had. They didn't have my first 2 beer choices available that were listed on the menu but I found one that worked

I've been several times ...always feels (smells) like a bar...not really being taken care of.
Most staff mean well, but I think they feel they are there for themselves not that they are there to service the patrons. Obviously the bartenders have their favorite regulars.
Food is consistent, however the last time I was at Shellhammers was nine months ago.
Used to be my fav go to spot but things have gone downhill. Burger patty was literally about 2 inches in diameter! Rest was all bun! Emailed the restaurant to inform and no response given. Cold fries. Sadly, not what it used to be.

I went last week with my family and the entire time saw the GM, Matt, being very inappropriate with the young servers. Some of the servers seemed uncomfortable and I felt bad for them. I will not be returning to this restaurant due to this reason, VERY uncomfortable atmosphere because of the GM praying on young women
