Good place to take students for dinner. Varied menu. Pasta was overcooked and drowning in sauce but really not bad for what it is. Service is friendly and professional.
My favorite restaurant in Newark. I especially love the Taverna Salad, the Chicken Taverna, and the Budino for dessert. You don't walk away hungry from Taverna. In fact, I had a complete dinner of leftovers for the next night also! It would be nice if the bread was warm. I love the dipping sauce for the bread! They always have a great beer and wine selection, and a number of cocktails and mocktails. The kid's menu entree that my granddaughter had could have fed 3 kids! Plus she got crayons, puzzles, and a picture to color.
Super nice waitress, helpful, informed, and friendly. Chicken dishes were a little dry, but very generous portions. Good selection of wines by the glass. We shall be back
The food was outstanding and our server was very accommodating and friendly. Love this place!
The food was great however I felt the service was very poor and the value was lacking. We were there for 2 hours and our waiter only came by once to refill our water. Our 8 yo dropped his utensils three times and each time our waiter was no where to be found. Same with bread refills. We ordered an appetizer and they brought it out with our main course. My son ordered the salmon but didn't want the side that came with it so the waiter offered him choices for other sides. He ended up getting a small side of spaghetti - well that ended up showing up on our bill for $7, which was annoying because our waiter did not disclose that it would be an additional cost to switch the side. Same with our other son - he ordered the $9.50 kids meal and asked for an extra side of fries. Well that showed up on our bill as a $8 side. We could have just ordered another kids meal that came with fries for almost the same price. The drinks were also extremely overpriced - my one glass of house cab was $18 and my husbands TWO drinks of double Tito's and soda was $48. Food was good but I definitely think the prices were really inflated and we felt like our waiter could have done a better job explaining the extra costs.
The food was delicious and the service was great. Our server, Abby, was friendly and really attentive. Food was paced nicely and everything came out perfect.
Food was made wonderfully and the quality of ingredients was great! Our server was knowledgeable of the menu as well and very helpful.
We were a big group celebrating my neice's birthday on a Saturday afternoon. The staff was very accomodating, helpful, personable, kind, just were so lovely and got everything right (which is very hard to do with large groups, but they nailed it). The food was excellent. They have vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, and non-alcholic beers. Really something for everyone. They brought out the cake with two huge sparkler candles and the look on my neice's face was something I'll never forget. They really went out of their way to make this a special and memorable experience. Such a welcoming place.

Met some friends here for dinner and had a lovely experience. Chef Christa has curated a wonderful menu full of Italian classics. Our server Abby was such a delight and made our experience a memorable one. We will definitely be back!

So recently my wife and I ordered takeout from the Taverna in Newark. We both ordered the Beef Brasato for $28. The portion of beef was incredibly small. The side of Parmigiano risotto was so small that I almost didn't notice there was any. Although we have dined at Taverna several times, I don't see myself coming back. Not because the food wasn't tastey because it was yummy, it is because of the portion size. I can only express my displeasure by taking my business elsewhere. Restaurants can only raise prices so much and cut portion sizes so small, that in the end customers will stop coming.
They have some great options for Italian food. The carbonara is to DIE FOR! Peas, bacon, and the classic creamy sauce. :)
Parking: Lots of parking spots on the streets, just be careful of restrictions and pedestrians.

Went here for dinner on a whim. Was sat quickly (was 4:45pm). Decor is nice, staff was friendly, waitress was very attentive. They served fresh bread with oil, refilled as well. Ordered rigatoni with sausage and all I can say is WOW! This was hands down the tastiest version I have ever had in my life. Slightly spicy so be prepared. My wife ordered the gnocchi dish which was cheese and cream based. She very much enjoyed hers as well. We will definitely be back!
