I travel about an 1 &1/2 to visit a friend here and It never disappoints me. Pool Tables are perfect, drinks good, music bringing the vibes and service is great. I love it here and recommend everyone to check it out. It has 2 billiard tables and some arcade games out and indoor seating and even triva night! I can't wait to go back.

We got delivery not realizing how awesome the place is. Food was completely amazing, lots of different flavors, huge diverse menu, great tastes in every dish. No boring pub fare.
I can’t wait to stop in.

Great local bar with an Irish pub feel. They have delicious potato skins and Guinness on tap. They also have some gteat happy hour specials. What more could you ask for?

Best wings in the city Hands down, especially the garlic stinger flavor 😋
I waited for a server for 20 minutes. They kept walking by my table and didn’t say a word. Me and friend finally got up left and went across the street to the Oyster House!

Catherine Rooney’s offers an energetic blend of Irish pub and American bar and grill, making it a favorite for both weekend outings and casual weeknight dinners. Located near the heart of Newark, the space is welcoming and lively, with dark wood furniture, Irish-themed décor, and TVs playing sports games. They also have live music on select nights, which adds to the friendly, upbeat vibe. The menu is more diverse than you’d expect from a traditional pub, offering everything from fish and chips to flatbreads, burgers, and shepherd’s pie. I opted for the Guinness-battered fish and chips, and it was spot on. The fish had a golden, crispy batter and flaky interior, served with thick-cut fries and tangy tartar sauce. My friend ordered the Jameson BBQ burger, which was juicy, loaded with flavor, and came with a side of sweet potato fries that were crisp and not greasy. We also tried the Irish nachos—house chips topped with cheese, bacon, and scallions—and they were surprisingly addictive. The drink menu includes a good selection of beers on tap, Irish whiskeys, and creative cocktails. Service was attentive despite the busy crowd, and prices were on par with similar pubs in the area. Catherine Rooney’s strikes a great balance between festive bar and solid dining spot. It’s fun, flavorful, and worth visiting again.

Get the fish and chips! I sat at the bar. Someone came out from the back to get beer for the batter. The grilled lemon was a nice extra touch.

Such a nice place! Beautiful and reasonably priced drinks. I saw live music from the band Vanylla Godzylla and it was absolutely amazing! Great show, they got the place packed, and them and the crowd had great energy. I will definitely come here for drinks again and I hope Vanylla Godzylla has more shows here!

Rooney’s food was absolutely amazing! Ordered the breakfast pizza yesterday (they are the only place I know that offers a brunch menu on Fridays) and the pizza was beyond fantastic!
Huge serving so had left overs this morning and it was just as good as it was yesterday.
Devon was so attentive and she makes yummy margaritas. My hubby enjoyed the delicious vodka water ice.
Great EVERYTHING at Rooney’s!

Cozy ambiance, yet a bit boisterous by the bar. (There are quieter spots, 'tho.) Prompt, attentive service & delicious food. We loved it!

Disappointing Experience at Catherine Rooney’s – A Call for Improvement
I recently visited Catherine Rooney’s during a Liverpool Champions League match, and I must express my profound disappointment with the service we received. The bartenders were not just unhelpful; they were outright rude and seemed to lack any appreciation for the patrons who were there to enjoy the game and support the establishment.
One incident that particularly stood out involved a friend ordering a Guinness draft. When he asked for a second one, the male bartender reacted with visible irritation, as if fulfilling our requests was an imposition rather than part of his job. The female bartender, who was working that Wednesday afternoon, was equally unfriendly—her demeanor was icy and unwelcoming. Not a single smile or word of gratitude for our business was offered; instead, we were met with a level of disdain that made us feel like a burden rather than valued customers.
As a long-time bartender and business owner myself, I understand the pressures of the industry, but this experience was one of the worst I've encountered. Service should enhance the enjoyment of the experience, not detract from it. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of basic hospitality in a place that relies on patrons for its success.
I hope this feedback serves as a wake-up call for management to address these issues. A positive attitude and genuine appreciation for customers can transform a good bar into a great one.
