Serena’s Soul Food has some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The owner was flat-out rude and unprofessional. She got loud with a customer, waved her hands in his face, and carried on like it was entertainment for everyone watching.
When the gentleman asked a simple question, she acted like he was annoying her. No business owner should treat people that way. It was embarrassing to witness and uncomfortable for everyone else in the restaurant.
If this is how management thinks customers should be treated, I won’t ever be back. There are too many other places that know how to serve good food and respect their customers.
Edit to owner: It absolutely did happen on Saturday 9/27/25 at the open mic night event! You went as far as to turn to another customer and start discussing the situation. Again, unprofessional!! It was very uncomfortable and the gentleman and his wife…ME, left and will never be back!! You’re toxic!

Following a trip to Delaware to complete a Facebook Marketplace transaction, I made a brief visit to this establishment. The cuisine was of high quality, and the serving sizes were generous. I recommend this soul food restaurant.

I decided to give Serena’s Soul Food Kitchen a try for takeout, and it was a complete mistake. By the time I got home, the food was a soggy, unappetizing mess. The containers were leaking grease, the fried chicken was limp and cold, and the mac and cheese looked like it had been scooped from the bottom of a pot hours ago. Everything was thrown together carelessly, with no attention to presentation or freshness. On top of that, the portions were tiny for the price. If this is what they consider “soul food,” they should be ashamed. Honestly, I wouldn’t feed this to my dog.

I honestly don’t know how this place is still open. Serena’s Soul Food Kitchen was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had in Wilmington. The food was greasy, bland, and tasted like it had been sitting out all day. My “fried” chicken was soggy and underseasoned, the mac and cheese was watery with zero flavor, and the collard greens were so bitter they were inedible. To make things worse, the service was painfully slow, and the staff acted like they couldn’t care less. The place didn’t even feel clean sticky tables, a funky smell, and flies hovering around while I tried to eat. Soul food is supposed to be comforting, but this was straight up disappointing and borderline disgusting. I left hungry, frustrated, and wishing I had spent my money anywhere else.

Nevermind the food lets tals.about the service, Horrible customer service from the owner herself. If the owner could careless about service and how its garnishes more clientele then how will the staff do better? Well they never will. She has an bad streetlike Attitude, entitled, assuming, tries to talk over, and a gossiper. With no people skills at all. Guaranteed will be out of business inside of 3 years from this date. Prove me a liar!!

The crab balls were great. The restaurant has great potential. I believe if they work on small touches, it could be excellent. I would have like to see cocktail sauce since they have an extensive sea food menu. The other is I would like to see hair nets in place on the men and women.
I randomly saw this spot when looking for an option near the train station and wasn't disappointed!! Portions are extremely generous, staff is friendly and helpful, and the flavors were spot on for brightening a rainy Tuesday. Thank you so much - I'll be back!
Always hits the spot! Love the new location. The wingette meal with the mac & cheese and yams, CHEFS KISS!
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Serena Soul Food is truly some of the best comfort food I’ve ever had. The mac and cheese was the best I’ve ever tasted—so full of flavor—and the fried fish was absolutely delicious. You can tell everything is made with love and care. On top of that, Serena’s welcoming spirit makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. Whether you’re grabbing lunch or dinner, you won’t leave disappointed. We’ll definitely be back!
I visited this restaurant today and overall it was just ok—everything was good except for the macaroni and cheese. For the price, I was expecting something a bit more elevated. It tasted like it was made with just Velveeta and it was sweet I’ve never had macaroni that was sweet it was disgusting , which was disappointing. A quality mac and cheese should include a blend of cheeses for a richer flavor. Even mixing in another cheese with the Velveeta would make a big difference. Do better !
Edit to owner: She clearly doesn't handle constructive criticism well. Instead of simply acknowledging the feedback, apologizing, and learning from it, she responded with an excuse that doesn’t even make sense. Nowhere in my review did I mention having yams as a side—so no, that’s not why the mac and cheese was sweet. It was sweet because the recipe was off—either it lacked a proper cheese blend and relied solely on Velveeta, or sugar was actually added. And based on other reviews, I’m not the only one who noticed the sweet mac and cheese.
