Although I think you can eat at this place I’ve only gotten takeout. It’s much better than KFC or royal farms. It’s more expensive but worth it. I recommend getting some collard greens for your side.

The Fried Chicken (duh!) Walt's Chicken is legitimately incredible fried chicken. The Lincoln Street location, Walt's Chicken Express, run by apprentice-turned-master Larry Fletcher, transcended even the original Walt's Flavor Crisp Chicken. After spending a decade learning from the original founder, Harry Sheppard, Larry opened his own Walt's on the West Side of Wilmington. And he took everything that made Walt's legendary, added his own Master Chef expertise, and elevated the chicken to an even higher plane of existence. You will NOT leave Walt's without already craving more of their fried chicken. It's THAT good. If you've had legitimately amazing fried chicken in Texas or Georgia, and can't tolerate the greasy rubber you always get served in the Northeast, take a sigh of a relief . Walt's is the ONLY chicken shop within 200 miles of Delaware that is legitimately *on par* with the best fried chicken joints in Texas or Georgia Get the fried chicken. White or Dark. Breast or wing; thigh or leg. All of the above. (Just remember to bring back 2-3 pieces for each other person in your home. Even if they "weren't hungry" when you left, they'll be furious you didn't pick them up a 3 piece dinner box) Lastly, don't expect anything special from anything else they serve. Sides, fries, fried shrimp, dessert, whatever else. They range from "decently good" to "mediocre at best." You're not there for cornbread.

It is hit or miss here. One visit everything is perfect and I am running back for more, the next it is subpar.

Live in the area and had never stopped by. Heading home early and decided to stop in and give them a try for lunch. I won't say it's the worst money I've spent, but I truly do wish I could have a do-over.

I ordered a small potato salad, (it was decent), but when I opened the bag and saw the size, I had to wonder if they thought they were feeding a child. (It was a Dixie cup sized portion....and that might be a bit generous.)

The Mac n' Cheese was ok...it tasted as if it had been sitting for a while, (definitely not FRESH); the chicken was slight dry, seasonless and was not "FRIED" chicken, but moreso baked, (this could be what they serve on a regular, but I assumed that "CRISP" meant fried.) I never did try the greens, as I was disappointed in the other food items and just didn't want to take a chance.

The one bright spot was the Sister who served me. She was very congenial and shared a bit of Walt's History. As a newcomer to the area, it was good to know a little bit about the company I was patronizing. Unfortunately, her bright and cheerful attitude isn't enough to make me want to come back/give Walt's another chance.

We were in the area today because of my kids football game. This place was about 3 minutes from the field so we decided to give it a try and I wish we didn’t. Grease was old, fish wasn’t fresh, no seasoning whatsoever, the greens tasted like grease flavored water, the sweet potatoes looked great but tasted like they’ve been in fridge for a week!! The customer service was exceptional portion size was great but it ends there. $52 wasted !!! Even the kids didn’t eat their platters. I was so disappointed ?

My mom and I were in this shopping center and happened to see this place walking back to the car. One patron inside there didn't know much about the food as it was his first visit too. A second patron was undoubtedly sure and said, 'The chicken is really good or I wouldn't be waiting for it.' 😄😄 So we decided to try it. The menu is full of delicious soul food items. The atmosphere is friendly and family friendly. The customer service was wonderful! The food turned out to be very good. I didn't give it 5 stars ONLY because my personal preference is more seasoning. But the hot sauce worked. I enjoyed the food and the cornbread was AMAZING! The bread pudding looked great, but it appeared it may have raisins in it...ewwww. So I didn't end up eating more than a quick taste. Suggestion: Get the fresh fish over the flounder fish...unless you get chicken. I would visit this restaurant again and recommend if you're in the area looking for soul food. I'm going to take a nap now lolol 😋🥰

Mold bread pudding

I’ve came to this particular Walt’s chicken regularly accompanied by several coworkers. Three of my coworkers bought the bread pudding, one of which was mine, and ALL three of them had green and purple spots on the inside of it which is clearly MOLD!

We came back to the store to show them the molded bread pudding. I’m assuming the woman who tried to justify why it was that color, was the one who “prepared it”, because she stated when she opened the bagel package, it already had “purple” spots on it.

I asked her if BREAD is supposed to be the color purple? (While I already knew OF COURSE NOT) & could she explain the light green spots as well. She just kept repeating “that’s the color of the bagel”, while NOT explaining the green spots I mentioned.

I told her if that was the colors of the bagel, then the bagel you used to prepare the bread pudding had MOLD ON IT! She was NOT apologetic at all but admitted to seeing the discolored bread before preparing it!!!!!!! (We received a refund) but was very disappointed by the explanation as if we were wrong!!

-Nevertheless they’ve lost a faithful customer! & be sure to CHECK YOUR DESERTS!!!!!!!!!!
