Very pricey and the prices aren’t shown on the menu. I had a poke bowl, basic toppings and was charged nearly $30. I was not even offered a glass of water. The workers try to make small talk here and there but they prowl on tourists to make their money.

Absolutely hated this place. Overcharged for things I didn't order, incompetent wait staff, and a location that is beneath the fluorescent lights outside of a mall entrance. You sit in the humidity next to trash cans where mall rats through out their slushies and hot dogs.

I'm rating this restaurant as TRASH because they canceled our reservation an hour before our reservation while we were driving in the car. We show up and they are closed and shut down. Had to contact OpenTable and that's when we found out the reservation had been canceled at the last minute. It's sad that they have to go on my DO NOT PATRONIZE list because it was exciting to have real sushi nearby but I'll stick to my other places.

A truly underrated gem. If you're a sushi lover like me who is into authentic, fresh off the Japanese coast, fish made by a Michelin trained chef, chef Yasu, then you're in for a treat. Warning: this restaurant is not for you if you are someone who eats condiments with a side of sushi. If you love long rolls drenched in teriyaki sauce and mayo, you won't enjoy this place. Makino can only be appreciated by those who enjoy omakase and tasting just the freshest fish. He imports fresh uni straight from Hokkaido. He has a local in Japan bidding on the highest quality fish straight from their auctions, packaging them up, and transported by plane from Japan to Miami. A strong indicator of a top tier sushi restaurant is its ginger and wasabi. They serve the freshest pickled ginger and real wasabi. Most paste wasabi served in the US squeezed out of a tube is fake, made of horseradish. Real wasabi is rare and expensive. So you should try it. This is the best sushi I've had in the East coast. An equivalent omakase restaurant in Las Vegas is 2x as expensive. But beware - this place *is* expensive so do expect to pay $29/2 pieces of nigiri. But the quality is worth the price. The restaurant is structured like a bar situated next to Cheesecake Factory in front of aventura mall's entrance. Sometimes, he plays reggae. I recommend getting Chef Yasu's speciality nigiri. You'll thank me later.

Even though we reserved on OpenTable for dinner, the restaurant was not open! The phone number on the OpenTable website for the restaurant was not answered. I hope I'm not charged my $10 per person cancellation fee! We had to find another restaurant on New Year's Eve. It was very inconvenient.

If you are looking for buffet style sushi get in your Kia and go. If you are looking for authentic sushi fit for a Samurai, you came to the right place. The owner-chef clearly takes much pride in what he does. My sushi tasted like it just came out of the sea. Also, has cool atmosphere for people watching.

A sour taste… By far the best sushi I’ve ever had. What I thought was shady, was the way it went down. I’m ordering through the menu, the salesman describes this amazing meal, that “isn’t on the menu” but will blow your mind! At the end, He didn’t bring me a bill. He just took my card and ran it. I had to make it a point to get a receipt. I had to ask for it by name. He folds it so I can’t see it, hands it to me, and walks away. There was no reason to ask me for a tip. He didn’t need to. It’s so ridiculously priced that he knew I wouldn’t tip. I ate alone. I ordered water. And my bill was over $100. And the way it all went down made the sushi worthless because I left with such a sour taste in my mouth and I won’t be back. They might have had the most amazing sushi, but too bad I can’t go back or bring anyone else. Customer service and transparency should be more important than skimming an easy $100 off someone. I didn’t mind the cost either. It was worth it. But I can’t support a business like that.

This place did not respect our reservation. In fact, we made one for 8:00 PM on Open Table, we called to confirm their location, in which they proceeded to hang up on us mid-conversation. When we walked in, the host/server/bartender lectured my boyfriend and raised his voice disrespectfully telling him WE made the mistake in our reservation and that it was our fault they’re refusing service. We know the restaurant canceled it via Open Table so they could go home for the night. The employee then asked for “proof” to seat us, but we couldn’t pull up the reservation because they canceled it on their end. There was not a SINGLE customer there and they didn’t close for another 30 minutes per their GOOGLE internet listing. You could very obviously see the employees were closing up the restaurant early and refused service so they could go home. The worst part for us, it so embarrassingly caused a scene and the employee was SO incredibly disrespectful and rude. We are truly hoping this refusal of service came from pure laziness and not some ignorant other reason. Needless to say, we will NEVER dine here ever.

Simple, straightforward menu, excellent food. Best sushi I have had in a long time. Forget the larger sushi restaurants in Aventura if you are looking for an excellent meal. A gem.

The sushi was very fresh, impeccably clean. Wish there was sparkling water served in glass bottles and some fans, as it is summertime.
