Big Hickory Waterfront Grille

According to a post by the owner on the Nextdoor app, they are closing permanently January 9, 2023. Very sad, we enjoyed this restaurant. Seems there were too many obstacles to overcome.

Closed due to Hurricane damage and water Surge. Owners lost the restaurant, marina and office building including their own home and rentals on Hickory Island.

The restaurant sits back a bit off of Hickory Blvd. making it a little difficult to see but I am glad we found it. Peaceful waterfront dining with the best food we had all week.

I want to say first that I stayed next door to this restaurant and it was access. If the food wasn’t good, I would say so. I come down most years around the 2nd or third week in September and many times they are closed for the season. I’m glad they were open this year. I had the coconut shrimp one night and the Grouper tacos another night. Both were very good. They also had a choice of IPAs, so I was happy. I think I’m going to try their lunch one day, it seems like quite a bargain.

Delicious food. Our waitress was very friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. She was also very knowledgeable of the menu. My crab stuffed grouper was delicious and packed with crab. They have the best sweet potato fries we’ve ever eaten. Great experience dining here.

Third time here and we’ve ordered the Mussels Chardonnay and Mike’s Bayou Shrimp each time and we’re never disappointed! They’re both so delicious and bursting with flavor. This time we decided to also try the Mahi-Mahi Bites which were great. The view is amazing and we got to enjoy watching some dolphins that kept making an appearance. We have a great experience every time we go. Highly recommend.

Well, I have to say we went on a hot day, not the restaurant's fault, but it was muggy outside.The food was good with good portions. The heat just took away from the experience. They have fans, but some table locations had no airflow, so it didn’t matter; you would be warm.The waitress was ok and good but not personable, and in the end, we had to wait nearly 15 mins to get our checks picked up after asking someone to find her.If your looking for good food and a pleasant atmosphere look no further be prepared for a wait as there are no reservations and it can get quite busy.

This little waterfront restaurant is a five minute walk from our condo on Little Hickory Island. Years ago we ate here often because of the convenience, but hadn't been back for awhile. Last month we walked over and had a fabulous meal. The food was so good, we went back again two days later. I had the fish tacos and he had the fried shrimp platter. We sat on the deck overlooking the water and enjoyed our meals and the ambiance. Afterward, we walked right across the street and watched the sun set over the ocean.The food and the location have made this a new favorite.The photo is overlooking the bay from their deck.

Our food was amazing, fresh and well spiced, customer service was up to standard, if you visit and is hot outside, seat inside, the view is beautiful outside but it is so hot! We had a great time!

The food was good and service fast. Not cheap but a decent value. We both had grilled grouper which was perfectly prepared.

We had a 5-star amazing experience AGAIN at Big Hickory Waterfront Grille. Thank you so much to Tracey (& her son Marcus) for welcoming our Porsche club back with a group of 66 people. Magical experience dining right on the water. Excellent parking for Porsches and cannot speak highly enough about the food and service. Add blackened Mahi to the Beet Salad, it's fantastic. Fish tacos are awesome too. Thank you so much Tracey - we will be back again for sure!

We stopped in for lunch. Had the caprese salad, mahi-mahi bites and grouper sandwich. It was all fine, but nothing special. The mahi-mahi bites were extremely salty and the grouper in the sandwich was thin. The view was nice and service was good.

Perfect relaxing dinner along a calm bay. Great service, food and view! Enjoyed watching the storm to our east. Cold beer, delicious and flavorful tacos and burger. We will be back time and time again !

We stopped for dinner one evening with no real expectations. Our dinner was incredible. Cubana Grouper was awesome!!!

The some of the best shrimp I have ever tasted!The grilled shrimp were amazing. Really nice meal, friendly staff and good service.There was even dolphin swimming in the bay while we were eating.Definitely worth a visit.
