Joey D's Chicago Style Eatery

Joey D's, Manatee Av. It hurts me to write this. I have been a fan of Joey D's for years. Admittedly, I usually get the philly cheesesteak, but this time a friend and I decided to order a pizza. It honestly was the worst pizza I have had in decades. There was nothing crispy about the crust. And way too much cheese. We asked the waitress if we had mistakenly gotten someone's pizza with a double order of cheese. I still love Joey D's and the staff, and I will go back, but I will never have a pizza again. I'll stick with my favorite philly cheesesteak sandwich..

Nice Ambiance. The pizza was good, however for deep dish I prefer a corn meal crust. Yet sadly I did not see corn meal as an option on the menu. All was well for dinner, however the waitress seemed very upset when I told her that I prefer to box my own leftovers. She seemed to take it very personal when I politely told her that I would be boxing my leftover, and to please just give me the pizza take home box. She really should not take this type of thing so personally, and frankly I don't like strangers talking over my food, so I am surprised that she did not even seem to consider this for the customer. Anyway, I really don't care to return here again. It's fine, but really I prefer cornmeal crust. Thanks.

I used to pay $13 dollars for a personal pizza with 2 toppings and a drink for roughly $13. Now that lunch special is $17! Yet it’s the same tiny personal pizza LOL, no thanks.

Last three visits were just.....not good. I even took a five month before trying again today. Three visits in a row, didn't the order right. Today, one person orders a pizza and the other person orders a simple spaghetti and meatballs. First, my pizza arrives, while my guest is told her order isn't ready yet and will be ready in a few minutes. Spaghetti and meatballs? You don't have pasta, sauce, and meatballs ready to go?
Then I quickly realize my pizza has neither of the two toppings I asked for. So I have a cheese pizza.
This location has gone WAY downhill. Today is 10/25/25. I have had three screwed up orders in the past year. My pizza was undercooked. Could taste the raw dough. Then they give some excuse my a simple dish like spaghetti and meatballs can't come out on time.
What a joke. Server was great. I don't blame the server at all. Get it together over there. Three bad visits in a year. I won't be trying again.

I have tried a lot of Pizza places around and this one is my favorite. When I walked in I was greeted with a warm welcome. I'm assuming she was an owner. The environment was nice and the waitress was friendly and attentive to our table. We ordered a deep dish with sausage and it was yummy. It had a nice crunch on the edges and softness. I thought it taste just like a Chicago pizza. We will definitely be going back.

Chicago style dog was tasty! Italian beef was juicy! Service was outstanding!

Great Food Great Service Good atmosphere However a gentleman by the name of Oscar who represented that he was the manager, could be better with his customer service skills. As shown in the attached photo that two dishes, calzone and stromboli were added to the special menu board. Oscar told us that those were Thursdays specials . Where is the word Thursday? He held his position for the $2 difference. Ok. I responded that the "board" should be corrected and that other customers might interpret the Board as we did and thus put an end to the confusion. He said he would not do it. Wow!

Was excited to finally try this restaurant. Was planning on eating a beef and taking a pizza home. After seeing the food on other people's tables, I didn't want to order either. Went with a chili cheese dog because it's pretty hard to mess that up. I wish I would have taken a picture because it was the most unappealing food you would ever see. The main reason I am making this review is because they put beans in the chilli that goes on the dog, beans dont belong on a hot dog! There wasn't even any ground meat, just beans and sauce.

Ordered from Uber eats just before close but forgot a drink and some ranch. Called and ordered them separately and Mazie was sure to make sure they came together. Thankyou Mazie!

Just wanted to taste the garlic nots. Service and atmosphere were good but they charge $8 for only 3 garlic nots which were mediocre. Definitely not worth the $8. Haven’t tried their pizza but hopefully they give you more for your money and flavor when ordering pizza.
