We visited this restaurant during a recent one week stay in the area. The food was very disappointing, lacked flavour and the vegetables in the dishes were not fresh.
We visited this establishment recently based on all the five stars reviews on Tripadvisor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with free parking. The decor of the restaurant is tired and desperately need fresh up and declutter. The salt and pepper mills are sticky to touch. My beer glass had unwanted lipstick mark on the rim. The satay appetiser was tasty, but the satay sauce was bland. Summer roll was freshly made, however it should have prawns in it. Surprisingly there were prawns in the papaya salad. But, the prawns were still raw in the middle. Our crazy stir fired spicy eggplant with beef were cold and beef were tough. The vegetables in the Thai green curry were still raw rather then al dente, chicken were dry to taste. The restaurant’s website said chef Mrs. Maew’s goal was to bringing the flavours and Thai cooking to the Gulf coast and the guests can expect the royal treatment- the freshest ingredients cooked to order. Has chef Maew gone missing?
We had fabulous meals, everything was fresh and delicious. Friendly staff, fast service and good atmosphere. We had crazy stir fry cashew shrimp and crispy pad Thai. Excellent!
My wife and I had dinner there today and very pleased with that decision. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food was incredible. The staff added to the experience in a positive way. We highly recommend dining there and will definitely return there when we are in the area.
I'm spoiled when it comes to great Thai food, as I moved to the Sarasota area from Portland Oregon last summer. Thai restaurants were prevalent, serving top notch food with huge portions and low prices. I enjoyed my first meal from Chang Kao Thai Cuisine. I had it delivered by GrubHub (which can be more miss than hit around here...but this time it was a hit!) I had spicy eggplant, a pork and shrimp dumpling and pork drunken noodles. I thought both entrees were on the skimpy side in terms of the portion, but adequate. I asked for spicy, and it was mildly spicy. I was upcharged $4 for extra pork, which was fair if I had been given a large portion, but it was barely more than you would get in a frozen meal...so that was really disappointing. The eggplant dish was good but there was a lot of liquid and not that much eggplant, and it was cooked so much it was mushy. I thought the appetizer...the pork and shrimp pockets were the best. If this was Portland, I would give three stars, but I am trying not to be too harsh. I might try this restaurant in person to see if they can improve their offerings if I explain what I need in terms of spiciness and presentation. Because I have had such a series of miserable GrubHub experiences in Sarasota, this one stood out as the best...low bar, but I was still overall content with the food and delivery of it.
Quick service, nice ambiance, reasonable prices, terrific food. We had the yellow curry and spicy eggplant; both were delicious! One of the best meals we've had in Bradenton/Sarasota.
Visited this restaurant with family on Christmas Day. Very friendly service and great food. Dishes we had were excellent: Fisherman boat, drunken noodles, and Thai lo mein. Definitely recommend to find and visit.
Don’t blink when you’re driving down highway 41. This is located in a strip mall that’s nothing to look at. It’s truly a gem in the rough. My neighbor told me about this place an hour ago and said “you have to try this place”. Glad I stopped in. Was looking for a local Thai place and finally found the best in the state!! Crab Rangoon and spring rolls are not fishy, and fried to a crispy perfection. Had the crispy chicken pad Thai and it’s my first time having the noodles fried... it totally works for wanting dinner with a crunch. Hubby had the Thai fried rice and said “this is on par with the Thai restaurants up in metro Detroit”. Brownie points for having Thai Iced Tea!!! We both meet the owner tonight who was beyond pleasant and super friendly. Plus, be sure to walk around the restaurant... they have handmade Thailand items for sale (silk purses, pillows, tissue covers, and key chains). Hands down. We will be back to try everything else on the menu. And maybe next time I’ll bring back my neighbor who recommended this place as a “Thank you”.
I ordered take out from Chang Kao for family. Everything was delicious. We had Pad Thai with chicken, tofu, and the crispy version. Also, two curries, tofu and chicken. Portions were generous. This restaurant is in an older strip mall on 41 near Bayshore Gardens. Don't let that deter you. Give it a try.
Soups were the best. Tried the wonton and non-spicy coconut soup with mixed seafood and both were delicious. My daughter enjoyed every bit of her mango chicken. My husband loved his ladnar and my son can’t remember his dish but knows he really liked it.

Ordered and paid online which was easy. Food was very delicious! Our group got crispy spring rolls, crispy shrimp rolls, crispy pad Thai, regular pad Thai, drunken noodles and chicken fried rice. I liked you could customize your orders on the site like omit peanuts or whatever. Everyone loved the food. Very tasty Thai food with a ton of options.
This was our third time dining at ChangKao, tucked away in a forgotten strip mall on N.Tamami Trail in Bradenton. Last night, we were the only couple in the restaurant, although their take-out business was brisk. I do not understand. This is, in my opinion, the BEST Thai food in the two counties. Consistently fresh, flavorful, delicious. Friendly, prompt service, reasonable prices and a large variety of dishes to choose from. Do yourself a favor and try this place!
We went to Anna Maria Island for the weekend and ended up going to this place not once, but twice. I was shocked that there is only a few people, which is a plus these days, the food was good and the prices very affordable.
We stopped in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was great and the service was perfect. We will be back.
This was a Tuesday night, in between the cities of Bradenton and Sarasota, near the Sarasota Int. Airport. I arrived early, like 5:30 and much to my surprise I was the only patron in this very pleasant and large Thai oriental restaurant. Everything about the food and service were Excellent, couldn't have been any better. I had the crispy Roast Duck and it was a really nice portion of really well prepared food. I look forward to the next time I visit.
