Today was our first time visiting, and it started off on such a positive note. We had an amazing server, Gisselle, who was patient, kind, and genuinely welcoming.
Unfortunately, that positive experience quickly turned upsetting. While we were still placing our order, another family came in behind us. Another server, who I believe was named Marsha, opened a second ordering window. Since this was our first visit, we had no idea there was another window, so we continued placing our order as normal.
Without any greeting or courtesy, Marsha abruptly and rudely questioned my 12-year-old niece, asking if she had already ordered and if we were together. She then harshly shooed her away and told her to step aside. Watching a child be spoken to that way was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable.
What made the situation even more painful was seeing Marsha immediately turn around and warmly greet the family behind us, who were white, with a completely different tone and demeanor. As a Black family, this interaction made us feel singled out and deeply disrespected.
I can’t say for certain what motivated her behavior, but the contrast in how we were treated compared to the family behind us raised serious concerns and left us feeling uncomfortable. Her actions ruined what should have been a happy first experience, and no family, especially children, should ever be made to feel this way.
