The Fat Donkey Ice Cream and Fine Desserts

The ice cream is delicious and the atmosphere is so cute. They do tend to get busy at certain times which shows how much everyone loves Fat Donkey. The Fat Donkey also loves its community and customers!

Careful going to the fat Donkey! Theft or death could occur and the powers do NOT care!

The owners/managers don’t allow their staff to give their names out, what time they will be in to be reached or even a number. We had to ask for a $39 REFUND for Ice cream, never received. The staff kept tell us it was OUR fault we didn’t get ice cream. Their reasoning: our credit card didn’t go through-we pulled up the charge and proved that wrong IMMEDIATELY. IT was then fault because we waited to long to tell staff we hadn’t got ice cream, even though we were standing there for 20 minutes, as they served other customers. So COMPLAIN QUICK, if someone is handed an ice cream before you get yours. We were TRYING to be patient, waiting for a larger order, obviously do NOT do that-because then if you don’t get ice cream, it’s YOUR FAULT. Staff were extremely rude, except for one girl who eventually gave us our refund, she had been doing the trash and was the only one not trying to blame everyone else because it was a MESS for all the customers that Sunday night. They, did provide us with ONE WRONG, ice cream, to one of our grandsons, sadly it wasn’t his, had nuts and our grandkids are allergic to nuts! Thank God we always check or this could have been lethal. Sadly, we weren’t the only people the staff skipped, gave the wrong ice cream too, the staff did at least one other family that night. The Fat Donkey staff were gladly handing out ice cream to friends-yet they didn’t want to give us a refund or ice cream for that matter? You figure it out. We did get the girl doing all the chores to reimburse us-well the others played the blame game if “….it’s our own fault….” We asked for a managers name, we asked for the owners name, the staff CLAIM they are not allowed to give out names, numbers or times when to contact owners/managers? When has anyone ever heard of that nonsense. What are the managers/owners trying to hide? Great ice cream but not worth the awful customer service, long wait and maybe getting the wrong ice cream that could kill you!

We went to the Fat Donkey on 28 of July 2026 for a birthday ice cream treat, total disaster. Yes I posted on Facebook and yes one father called me abusive for calling out the issue, on social media, since no manager/owners numbers could be given. I mean-if you’re going to give me no choice I will do what I had to do. No I did not post video or names, as I was trying to not be that RUDE, I just Ed wanted answers and NO the owners/managers are still hiding. BEWARE! Ice cream isn’t worth all this! Plenty of other ice cream places that will give you managers names/times when something goes wrong. $39 isn’t a little bit of ice cream!

Best ice cream…flavors are fantastic!! We were here for three days, had it all 3 days.

To the owner of Fat Donkey Ed Martinez and the Cocoa Beach locals, there is a HUGE problem at the Fat Donkey (247 Minutemen Causeway, Cocoa Beach, FL).

We went for birthday ice cream, at 9:10PM ON 28 of June 2025, the line was VERY LONG but it’s usually wonderful ice cream, so we decided to WAIT!!! After close to 30 minutes, to place our order for ice cream, at 9:48PM, we finally got helped. There were six of us, as I said, it was a birthday ice cream, after we had a lovely dinner at Coconuts On the Beach. We ordered just over $39 worth of ice cream and WAITED! It soon became at 10:05PM (17 minutes after ordering) that the people AFTER us were now being served, the line was almost gone and they were serving people as they walked up. We brought up the issue, that we were STILL waiting on our ice creams, to two of the three young women working the counter, Sunday night at the Fat Donkey. Wow, let’s just say the attitude was SHOCKING and RUDE, along with their friends, who were customers, whom were survived immediately, but decided to chime in and insult us. They claimed our order must have NOT been processed and acted like this entire issues was somehow 🤦🏼‍♀ not their fault. Their attitude was nothing: there was nothing they could do. After finding the credit card transaction, they looked back EXTREMELY far on the register, to find out transaction HAD been approved, but no apology. By this point it’s 20 minutes after 10 everyone is frustrated and anointed, so we no longer wanted our ice cream’s, who knows what they would have done with those attitudes.

The one server did apologizes while the other workers still acted aghast that we would be unhappy that we didn’t get our ice cream. No, the ice cream was never offered. We got our refunded, asked for a mangers name, were told they weren’t allowed to give out anyone’s name. Asked for a customer service number, they weren’t allowed to give that either. They could tell us when no one in authority would be in and basically blew us off.

It is VERY hard for me to believe there is no way to contact you or to be given info on when you’d be in the store to speak with? The way the girls acted, behind the counter, wasn’t only RUDE but they were far more worried about talking to their friends that came up at the last minute and us standing there $39 short and no ice cream to show for it. Thank goodness you had one level headed employee that decided to refund us our money. Our family, in town from Huntsville, AL were shocked at not only the lack of professionalism but also that the two young ladies want to blame the entire situation on their customers, by claiming that the transaction didn’t go through. Again, we pulled the bank statement up-it was CLEARLY already showing on the credit card. It’s time to REtrain your staff, the lack of customer service is simply appalling. If your staff isn’t allowed to tell someone when management would be in; to give a owners name, give any contact information and/or customer service information-please don’t be surprised when your put “onBLAST” on Facebook.

Sadly, we weren’t the only one’s your staff skipped that night. I’m sure you must have security footage for your customer service/window service that you can roll back and get the footage or the awful job done by two of your workers. Maybe supply them with a business card, so that when there is an issue, we can’t get ahold of you?

The unprofessional nature was embarrassing and simply ruined a a lovely evening, before a long ride back to Alabama by our guests. — eating dessert at Fat Donkey.

I’m in town for a few days and it was recommended I go to Fat Donkey for dessert. I couldn’t believe all the options and flavors. I got the butterscotch bomb and when I say this ice cream is an OMG moment, it sooooo is. The girl who rang me up, Micha, was very sweet and patient while it was so busy with a crazy line.

We came in as a group of six, and we all ordered something different. Every single person loved their choice! The portions are incredibly generous—the single scoop looked and felt more like two huge scoops, which was a wonderful surprise. The service was also exceptionally fast. Before the last person in our group even finished ordering, the first few people had already been served their ice cream. Tasty and worth a stop!

The Browns Take a Day Trip - A Travelogue

This past Friday, we left Jacksonville bright and early for Sanford to try the Indiana-style fried pork tenderloin that we'd read so many good reviews about. It didn't disappoint. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside in a restaurant appropriately named The Breezeway and ordered the tenderloin, their homemade chips, and sauteed brussel sprouts. We knew the tenderloin would be huge so we decided to share one. And it was huge! The tenderloin was panko coated which was different than what George was used to, but I really liked it. Even after splitting the tenderloin in half, we were still only able to eat half of our sandwiches. That was good because we had big plans for dessert - a trip to The Fat Donkey in Cocoa Beach for my favorite Stellar Coffee ice cream.

Once we got to the Fat Donkey, I ordered an ice cream sandwich made with 2 fresh cooked churros with a Stellar Coffee middle. George had a scoop of chocolate cake and a scoop of black cherry. It was all so delicious! George said his black cherry ice cream may have been the best he ever had. And how can you go wrong with Stellar Coffee ice cream. I loved it with the churros. 10 stars, Katie! Lol.

On the way home we decided to take the historic Dixie Highway - an early 20th-century auto trail stretching from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Miami, Florida. While most of it has been paved over, you can still drive, bike, or walk a beautifully preserved, 10.6-mile original brick segment here in Northeast Florida.
This is the longest remaining contiguous segment, stretching about 10 miles between Espanola and SR 204. It is mostly dirt-covered to protect the historic bricks. So off we took.

We saw deer and wild turkeys and the single lane road was lined with coreopsis. We were about 2/3 of the way down the road when we came to a pine tree lying across the road. So George sized it up and determined we could clear it. Well, we cleared it ok, but unfortunately a knob on the tree just barely caught the sidewall of one of our rear tires and popped a hole in it.
So he jacked up the car (after discovering that we didn't have an adapter to work the jack like we're supposed to have) using a screwdriver to work the jack. He had just finished loosening the lug nuts a turn or two when 2 guys came up in a truck from the other direction - Logan and CJ.

Although we were a little concerned when they first approached, they were nice guys that work in lawn care, tree service and demolition...and they had an impact wrench gun in their truck. So they nicely volunteered to finish taking off the damaged tire and putting on the spare using the impact wrench gun. And thank goodness we got the tires quickly switched out as the skies were very dark ahead and soon it was pouring rain.

So here we were southwest of SR-16 and I-95 running on a donut tire. Fortunately, there was a Discount Tire nearby so we set off to get a new tire under our road warranty on our way home. When the Discount guys were taking off the spare, it turned out that our good Samaritan had accidentally cross threaded one of the lug nuts and the stud broke off in the lug nut as the Discount mechanics were trying to loosen it by hand. But they finally had 2 new tires on and we were off on our way back to Jax. The next day we were at the Subaru dealership to get a new stud and lug nut installed.

Boy, what a day! 😂 But, we'd do it all again for Fat Donkey ice cream!

During a recent day, we were in Sanford for lunch and decided to head South and go back to Fat Donkey for my wife's favorite ice cream, especially when she heard they had fresh churros. So she ordered an ice cream sandwich made with 2 fresh cooked churros with a Stellar Coffee middle. I had a scoop of chocolate cake and a scoop of black cherry. This may be the best black cherry ice cream I have ever had. It was all excellent!

Have wanted to try this place for years! Was worth the trip from Orlando! Cant wait to visit again! Great selection and service!

Super amazing and delicious. So many options. Fast service even when there is a long line. Had 4 kids with me. Reasonable prices. Large portion. This was our second visit and we will be back!

This place is a legend in my family. We've been coming here for years and years. As a matter of fact, it's one of the first things we do when we come here on vacation, visit the fat donkey. We passed on our little family secret to our friends over the years today are all becoming loyal donkey followers. You never know what flavors are going to get and I tried to try something new each time I visit.

We loved the Churros with Butterscotch Bomb! Hands down my favorite ice cream spot!

No churros no stars. If it’s a menu item have it. Especially when it’s th only thing that makes you different. Middle of the day no reason to be out. Only reason we drove that far down.
