Right when we walk in the door Charlie greets us and welcomes us into his restaurant. We placed our order, grabbed our drinks and utensils and had a seat. Charlie has a selection of private label soft drinks. We tried the Root Beer and it was very flavorful. Our orders arrived pretty quickly. I chose the swordfish and had it blackened, as Charlie sudgested. It was very good. I also enjoyed the coleslaw and the seasoned fries. My companion had the fish and chips. She felt that the fish was under seasoned, but liked the fries and coleslaw. Overall a good experience and we will try again in the future. :)
Excellent rest , will be back . Love your place . Lobster was delicious .
Omg best seafood near the beach. Plus Charlie is such a nice guy. I actually ate inside and I was planning to pick up and leave. But he makes you feel so comfortable I said why not. Trust me just you want be disappointed I also tried the fried oysters and chicken wings I ate them to fast to post a pic??
Charly is at the register to greet you with a BIG WELCOME!! THAT chic Fila type service makes you feel like he knows you from way back!! Definitely worth visiting NTS!!
It was pretty good! Very expensive tho
We’ve been coming to Charlie’s for a few months now and it seems every time is better than the last. Price is on point, Charlie is always welcoming and on-site, food is always fresh (I’m a fisherman and I can tell fresh vs. frozen….this is FRESH) — would recommend to anyone looking for a tasty meal at a fair price. Blackened wahoo, conch fritters, calamari & grouper fingers are our favorites.
Should have turned around and left but you have to order and pay at the counter. By then it is too late to leave. First, it is not clean. Then when I grabbed napkins at the condiment station, I was promptly chastised and told that there were napkins at the table I should use. (I had 2 grandkids with me.) But when we did try to use the napkin dispenser at the table, it was empty. The cold lobster roll was just some chopped lobster on lettuce on a bun. Zero mayo. Just a small amount of plain lobster and shredded lettuce. Grew up eating lobster in a New England fishing town-- never saw a plain lobster roll in my life. Asked for mayo--got 3 packets of squeeze mayo. Asked for some fresh lemon, Charlie brought the empty lemon TUB with 2 SLIMY pieces of lemon in it and DUMPED the whole thing--including all of the slimy wet watery drippings from the bottom of the tub-- ON TOP OF MY LOBSTER ROLL.God only knows how many dirty hands of how many people over how many days had been in that tub of lemons before Charlie dumped it all on my food, That man is not nice. I should have left at that moment and even notified the Board of Health. But wait, there's more. My "Ipswich" clams were definitely not (I grew up a couple of miles from Ipswich). What they were, were very expensive and small, rubbery, overcooked. YUCK!, The chowder was so thick like wallpaper paste that you could literally stand a spoon up in it. Then I had to ask for cocktail sauce--was given a huge slimy dirty, plastic squirt bottle which Charlie later took back halfway through my meal when I wasn't looking. Had to ask for it again. He resented it. He is not a polite, friendly, accommodating host. Finally, if you don't want Fox News blaring at you while you are trying to eat bad, grossly overpriced, scary food---do NOT go to Charlie's. We paid $100 for one of the worst, scariest lunches we have ever had. We were robbed.
You will not be disappointed! From Charlie's New York accent to his friendly atmosphere, the dine-in space is quaint and a genuinely at home feel. And the Lobster Roll or Ipswich Clams... Forget About It! You won't find them better. I promise... Dine-In or Take-Out!
I found Charlies Fish Fry by accident by driving by. My husband and I try to eat here at least one a week. I can’t believe some of the negative reviews because we have tried many things on the menus and everything we have had is outstanding. His lobster bisque is fabulous, his fish tacos are great and his grilled fish is superb. The place is clean and Charlie is a very friendly guy. And no, I am not a relative. Just giving an honest review.
Wanted to have something different and Charlie’s came up on a local restaurant search. I had their Lobster Roll, a cup of New England Clam Chowder, and my wife had their Grilled Snapper Sandwich and a side of hush puppies. I can not believe how good this seafood was. Growing up in the Northeast, I lived on seafood and this is not your “run of the mill” frozen cod sandwich place! This was unbelievably fresh seafood cooked perfectly and enough to fill you up. I will definitely be coming here again to try other dishes and if your in the Deerfield Beach area and want some delicious seafood, go to Charlie’s!!!

First time visit. Fish and Chips are outstanding! Lightly breaded cod was delicious and not greasy. Owner operated with friendly welcoming service. Great place to go for a casual meal. Portions and prices are very fair.
Go for the seafood. Fresh, well prepared, and tasty. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable and the Best grilled fish I’ve had in the area and the rock shrimp - which is hard to find - was awesome. Don’t be put off by the reviews about Charlie. He’s a no muss no fuss kind of guy but nice enough. He was chatting everyone who came in and out and ate while I was there so I wouldn’t let the negative reviews get in your way of good food.
Visited after reading reviews. Did not disappoint. Charlie was at the counter and so friendly. Felt like a longtime friend. Per Charlie’s recommendation we ordered the cod dinner. It did not disappoint. Lightly battered to let the wonderful flavor of the cod take center stage. The fries are some of the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely revisit. To be clear the location is on Hillsboro ?
We checked out Charlie's for a basic fish & chips meal and were not disappointed. Charlie himself was working the eating area and is a personable guy who seems to care about his customers. The lobster bisque was okay, but not spectacular. The fish & chips (cod) meal was great. My wife got the Grouper fingers and hers were also really good. We would go back again.
Charlie not only kept the place open late on Monday night to cook our catch of the day, but he also treated us like family! His team cooked our Snowy Grouper, Mahi Mahi & Blue Tile Fish to Perfection! What a great little treasure so close to Bolo Sport Fishing!
