I don't understand what happened to this place it used to be SO GOOD and I am born and raised Californian, I have had authentic Mexican food my whole life and know what is good Mexican food. I have lived here for a decade and could never find decent Mexican food other than maybe a food truck. When a friend made a suggestion to try Happy Cactus about 3 or something years ago we were impressed and very pleased. The food was so tasty and you could tell they care to make it that way. I tried to give this place chance after chance but the last few times we ate there the food was awful. My kids had a cheese and chicken quesadilla and it barely had cheese in it, my daughter used to always eat these but not the last couple times. The meat for the fajitas tasted and looked like very cheap meat and the taste was just bland and off, Same with my burrito. We decided to stop going after our last experience when we really wanted it to be the way it used to be, we just keep getting let down.I am starting to wonder if the place has been under different management/ owners than before or different cooks, something. I REALLY liked this place so it's really too bad it just isn't the same. There's a new Mexican restaurant in Port Richey y'all should try. They used to be a food truck and just opened a spot with really amazing food.

Small place. Fajitas and beer excellent. Salsa (3) different kinds and chips were worth every penny. Wish I could take a jar home of 2 of them. Don't recommend margaritas unless you just want a mix. Elote was very salty on the cob. Otherwise, excellent.

We went there on a Wednesday evening and we had made reservations for a party of 5. When we arrived the hostess had no idea how she was going to seat us. It got to the point that a family with children actually got up and moved to a different area to accommodate the seating arrangement .From there it didn’t get better. The service was non existent ! We ordered apps which were way overpriced for the tiny portion (queso and guacamole ) there were no complimentary chips in fact we were charged extra for more chips . We had plates just piled up on the table, empty drink glasses and none of the dishes came out at the same time so three of us were left eating cold dinners. The food was decent ( perhaps better hot ) at best. We asked for some jalepenio peppers and were brought a dish of Serrano peppers instead and yes there is a difference .All in all we most likely will not return to the happy cactus . The resturant was not very busy when we were there so there was no excuse for the lack of service

Since everything is prepared fresh there was a long wait. One long wait produced the wrong menu item. Too bad. I brought guests because I love their food.
The Camarones Diablo are amazing and the service was great. Excellent spot.

The best Tex-mex. In the Tampa area. Hands down! Nobody comes close. We are from Texas and this fills the Mexican food fix that we crave. Chuy's is in the area but quite a bit further north.
