My daughter’s favorite cake is yellow cake with caramel icing. Even though the 8 inch round cake was $65.00 before tax, which is about 20.00 more than the going rate. I ordered it because the reviews were good and the bakery is close to my home. It was a not a yellow cake, nor was the icing caramel. It was dry as if it had been made a day or two ago. Six adults at the party and no one could eat it. The cake was thrown in the garbage.

I've been in this area for a while, and I'm disappointed to say that I've never been in here until today. They have been here for three years. I got a bunch of stuff to bring home. Cheers

Wow this bakery not only smells good but reminds me of a lovely setting sitting outside at River walk in Savanna Ga. sipping a great hot cup of coffee, and enjoying one of SBB's delicious pastry's. Their almond crescents are a a really different take on an almond pastry, thinking it was going to be something delicious with an almond paste interior turned into something deliciously different. Biting into this crescent you get the slight crispness of a cookie, but with a surprising taste of a almond macaroon, so good. I came late in the day so the selection was somewhat limited, but I was told by the very nice girl behind the counter that the best time for a wider selection is between 9:00 and 12:00 the time I plan to visit next time...

Wasn’t impressed!!! I Get there at 9am and not open. I called and she said a few minutes, it was about 9:10 when she let my family and 2ladies in. The one lady asked for a hott coffee but the machine was down. Which today was cold so hott coffee would have been great but anyways I ordered a cinnamon roll but they only had pumpkin and apple, I got pumpkin and it wasn’t great but my daughter liked it. Then I got a croissant and it was so dry. I’m not sure if I will return.

Had an intense craving for a red velvet cupcake and Southern Bay delivered. The icing was creamy and smooth and the cupcake itself was so moist. Definitely a new regular.

Invited some of my friends to a mid morning coffee date after seeing their FB post about coffee flights and we were SO happy we tried this place!!! As soon as you walk in the door your nose will thank you! The pastries were amazing, the Apple Cinnamon Roll was as big as the plate!! We got 3 flights as couldn't decide on what to order! I brought home a Thanksgiving Dinner croissant to try later- can't wait!

I had a wonderful time during my visit to this place! What made it even better was that our fur baby, Marshmallow, enjoyed lounging with us on the shaded patio. One highlight of the visit was experiencing a tea flight for the first time, and it was truly delightful! I sampled a variety, including dole whip, spicy mango, mixed berry, and peachy green. Every sip was a unique experience, except for the spicy mango, which unfortunately lacked flavor and had an odd gelatin-like consistency. It's hard to pick a favorite from the rest. The dole whip was a delightful blend of sweet and tart, the mixed berry burst with flavor, and the peachy green might have even had whipped cream, resembling the dole whip in its appeal. My boyfriend opted for the coffee flight, which featured mint mojito, salted coconut cream, orange creamsicle, and afogato. His favorite was the refreshing orange creamsicle, while I found the salted coconut cream to be my top pick. He also enjoyed the option to choose tiny cupcakes, allowing him to savor various flavors, but the real winner for him was the chocolate cake pop.Overall, our visit was a memorable and tasty experience, with a diverse range of tea and coffee options to please every palate, complemented by the added bonus of delectable mini desserts.#11

I don't even like sweets very much! But Dang!!! These mini cupcakes were insane! I actually don't even like cake very much but honestly it was amazing!! Perfect ration of frosting cake was moist and dense. And frosting was not too sweet fluffy and rich.

If you enjoy fudgy brownies, chewy almond horns, delicious raspberry cheesecake, or scrumptious tiramisu then this bakery is for you!I’ve been here too many times over the past couple of months… dangerous but so worth it. The staff is wonderful too. They’re always so cheery!

My fav local bakery in the area! the smell itself makes you fall for every-single-desert in this bakery! The interior is so cozy, and there is a lot of space to sit and enjoy your eating with your loved ones! I have tried their mini cupcakes, and I really fell in love with every single one! Each flavor tells a different story-and I won't talk much so you will give it a try and tell me what's your fav! The service was fast, the staff was really nice and friendly. All in all I can give this place a five!

The cream cheese frosting was great on their mini cupcakes but the regular frosting just tasted like Crisco grease.

Very good puff pastry, beautiful place, but the gastronomic experience was fatal. The food was served on disposable plates as was the coffee. With that, all the good things that were seen upon arrival were lost.

Short version: Though diminished in ambiance and selection, the Southern Bakery delivers uncompromising quality, flavor and freshness. The Cheesecake Brownie that I selected was fudgy deliciousness and also excellent value. The Southern Bay Bakery gave up a bit of Southern charm this visit with a darkened and empty refrigerated case devoid of decorated cake slices. The other cold case was in use and I am told that the cakes will be back on the weekends, so that is a relief. The front counter was stocked with a good selection of cookies, brownies and cupcakes. A very large red velvet sticky bun was also reasonably priced. The mini cupcakes went down in price to $1.50 (previously $1.75) which is a step in the right direction. The hand pies are still priced at $8 each and too pricey for me. Determined to try a goodie, I selected between the dark cocoa colored flourless brownie and an equally large milk chocolate colored flourless cheesecake brownie. I chose the latter upon good advice of the very helpful barista. The brownie was delicious and large enough to feed a small family. The consistency was fudgy but not overly dense while retaining a delightful crispy crunchy top layer. I so enjoy brownies that are cocoa forward and not too sweet. This one fit the bill, with a surprising hint of cheesecake flavor that did not overpower the cocoa. The ingredients were super fresh and of high quality. All in all, this is a brownie worth coming back for, and I think I will do just that once in a while. So why I am I being stingy with the stars? I think that the Southern Bakery's retail operation is idling and perhaps has become an afterthought. I bet they do a screaming business with catering and wedding cakes. Retail bakeries are a tough business, especially outside of the touristy Downtown Dunedin area. But it can be accomplished. For example, Sweet Carolines does well out of a strip store in Palm Harbor. I am hoping for lower prices and the return of that creativity that I first saw when they opened with unusual flavor combinations and daily specials. The Southern Bakery has the fixings of a fun and convenient spot to meet for a continental breakfast, brunch or lunch, that happens to also have a burgeoning catering operation in the back.
