For the first time in almost 30 yrs. we were disappointed in the food we purchased. We are “year rounders” so it is people like us that are restaurants bread and butter patrons. We ordered 2 cod fish baskets which is one of our “go to favorites” and were not happy. The fish was VERY TINY PORTIONS and did not look or taste like cod. We are from New England originally and very familiar with cod and haddock. The fish we were given looked and tasted like haddock. The consistency of the fish also was not as expected. Cod fish is a chunkier consistency than what we received. The prices have gone up which would not be an issue if the food and the portions remained the same. I know they are CLOSING FOR VACATION July 1st thru August 12th but we will not be driving from Port Charlotte to Englewood any time soon even when they reopen. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are New Owners involved. I was brought up to believe “ if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!! Sorry to see problems occurring with a land mark business. When we first found the Cafe 776, the price of the Cod fish basket was $7.76; that’s how long we have been customers. The price now is $14.99….☹️😢😠

Huge portions, none of us could finish anything. Kind of ugly looking and i wish we could have sat outside, but otherwise our food was good and so was our service! The patio should get open so you can sit outside!
