Black Bear Golf Club, TopTracer Range & Restaurant

We had a group of people who Went here for our a birthday. There was a large group of us in two bays ordering a decent amount of food and drinks. We had just gotten there and had only hit a few times when a club head flew off and landed out in the middle of the range. When we brought it to their attention immediately, they immediately said it was our fault and claimed we were hitting the ground, which was impossible because the tees are set extremely high. They told us we would have to pay to fix it. That alone wouldn’t have been the biggest issue if the employee hadn’t gotten an attitude with everyone. When we asked for the manager, he said “I can be the manager.” If you’re not the manager, don’t say that. Then he told us the owner was there but that she doesn’t know anything about golf so she won’t help. We still asked him to get her, and she came out about 20 minutes later and just continued to tell us we needed to pay. On top of that, we had already paid to rent clubs, which is fine, but the clubs they gave us in the first place were visibly dented and in bad shape. When we pointed it out, they said the dents wouldn’t cause any issues. Then after the incident, they told us they were taking those clubs back and giving us cheaper ones because of the situation even though we paid for rental clubs that are supposed to be in good condition. They claimed they have contracts that cover broken equipment, but also admitted that when it gets busy they don’t have time to go over contracts, yet we were the only people there at the time. No contract was given to us and there were also no signs anywhere stating if you break it, you buy it. Instead they told us it was just common sense that if you break it, you buy it. In the end someone in our group bought a new club just so we could continue, and we even let them keep it just to move on and enjoy the birthday as best we could. To make it worse there was hair in the food. The waitress and waiter themselves were fine with no issues, but management and attitudes were awful. They also charged us $10 just to bring in cupcakes for a birthday which is insane considering I bought the cupcakes myself and even had to put the candles on them. 10/10 will not be returning. After this experience all of the negative reviews make sense and I’m honestly shocked they have as many positive reviews as they do. Added a little information for some people because apparently we don’t understand physics there :)

My friend and I have been taking lessons with Roger, and we’ve really been enjoying them. After hearing how much fun we were having, my husband signed up for private lessons too. We all agree it’s been a great experience.
We’re not quite ready for a full round of golf yet (so close) but we’ve been loving the lessons, the driving range, and the putting green. The food and drinks are also a nice bonus while we’re there.
I don’t often leave reviews, but I will when I feel it’s deserved. If you’re considering giving this facility a try, I definitely encourage you to do it!

From the second you checked in they made you feel rushed and stated that there were large groups behind us. At the restaurant the lady was not friendly at all and also made us feel rushed. Almost as if we were bothering her. Nice course but be ready to be rushed everywhere you go

Tried to book online, wouldn’t take my card. I called the pro shop to get on the sheet and the moron told me to book online… newsflash buddy IT WOULDN’T TAKE MY CARD. Horrendous smell coming from this place. 2.04/10

Always a great course to play. Conditions were good, even with the drought that we had. Pace of play was good.

This course charges premium rates for terrible greens and fairways filled with crabgrass and bunkers were filled with weeds. But even worse than the condition of the course was the staff. The manager came out aggressively screaming at us when we got food after 9 holes saying we cant eat there even though nobody told us these rules and they weren’t posted anywhere and even got in our face at one point. Also the old lady who works the bar has one of the nastiest attitudes I’ve ever dealt with. Save your money and time and go to a different course.

We haven't played Black Bear in years. My husband had a heart attack and is recovering and trying to regain his strength. He loves Black Bear and we will be back! The restaurant is always delicious and the beer is cold. Thank you for a wonderful day!

second time playing Black Bear. first time was over 10 years ago. had a great experience again. excellent value on a quality course. so many community courses these days are run down with deferred maintenance. Not Black Bear. Fair ways and green were in excellent shape. some tee boxes could use some TLC, but did not detract from a very nice golf course. hopefully, it won't be another ten years. too good a course.

Great food! This gem is well worth the visit. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full bar. If you are a golfer or just want to drive a few balls, try the toptracer while enjoying your meal. Great service as well

The course is in good condition but not recommended for handicapped, disabled, or elderly players due to the changes in elevation and areas being roped off so far from the greens. By the time I was done with 18 holes, I felt like I had run a decathlon.

Pretentious owners know nothing about golf. Often seen yelling at guests. Course offers small, volcano greens with steep and poorly maintained rough around them. Cart path exits will leave you wanting a chiropractor. Its overpriced for the course

I totally recommend Black Bear Golf Course to my friends and anyone who wants a challenging but fair game of golf. Patrick

Course was in horrible shape. The only thing that was ok was the tee boxes. Greens had holes, rot and mold. Fairways and fringes were absolutely terrible. You’ll be hitting off of packed sand in almost every fairway. Bunker edges look like someone just went haywire with a spade shovel. The older fella who checked us in clearly did not want to be there and was very rude. The new range was very nice if you wanna hit off mats which most golfers do not. They spent all that $$$ to look like top golf but literally let the course go way downhill. Drove over an hour and was extremely disappointed. I used to love this place but now it looks like they don’t even water it. Absolutely shameful conditions.
