Tuesday night birthday dinner. Arrived 30 minutes after opening at 6 pm, and was told there was going to be a 35-minute wait. Was seated at 645 to a full table. Waited 20 minutes for a drink order. The cook came at 750 and began cooking, then we received our soups and salads as he was serving up the rice to us. The cook wasn't entertaining and seemed confused about who got what. The birthday boy didn't even get acknowledged and the waiter was informed during ordering. Drink refills happened once. When the hostess was bringing to-go boxes, we informed her we didn't want our appetizer anymore. She immediately went to the kitchen and brought it out and cheerfully said no charge. Really, I would hope so. It's been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour.

Apart from us waiting for about 30 minutes before seating us the food and service experience was great.
Flori, the chef, was AMAZING! We were part of the memorial day dinner rush and he was so conscientious, and funny and engaging even though im sure he was tired. He and Michael our server made the experience very fun even though the wait time was long. Food was good as well and atmosphere was good.
Amazing place, amazing chef. Our server, Michael, was awesome was kept us up to date despite the long wait. Our Chef, i don’t want to butcher his name but i believe it was Fleury? He is funny and awesome! That wait was all the way worth it though.
Slow service. waited 45 minutes at table for someone to show up for wait service. Then waiter didn't bother to show up for 30 minutes after beverage service. 2 men cooking.
We were looking to try a new Hibachi restaurant other than the one we typically go to so we came to Kabuki. Our experience was great. The food was good, nothing different than most hibachi restaurants. The staff were all friendly. We would definitely go again.
Started off by walking in about 8:50. They sat us at the grill area where we waited for our server with one other couple. I’d say we waited atleast 45 minutes if not longer. I believe in them doing that they were making sure no one else was coming in and if so the last 5 seats were not going to wasted. In that time period we didn’t receive drinks or service. When the chef finally did get to us we were starving and annoyed making his joking surface level compared to our deep hunger. He was kind, I know they were busy but then we got our food which was covered in salt. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE salt but this was over the top. EVERYTHING tasted like sea salt. I was disappointed, my other half used to come here all the time about 15 years ago and it was one of his favorite places to eat. We still tipped our 20% but went home to both have upset stomachs and I won’t TMI y’all but we won’t be back.
Restaurantji Recommends
We sat at the sushi bar. Sushi chef was engaging and the food was excellent.
We had reservations at 7. The chefs?? were short handed so we sat through a whole seating before our turn. We got out at 10:15. The dinner was at best average. The ventilation was poor. I would never recommend. The food tasted like Chinese take out so do not waste your money or expect a nice dining experience in comparison to others available.
A Disappointing Experience Despite a Great Cook – Visit with Caution During Busy Times
I recently dined at Kabuki Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi on Amelia Island, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While there were a few high points, the overall visit was overshadowed by long waits, poor service, and a key element of the meal that was far below standard.
To begin, we waited an hour and five minutes just to be seated, which was already frustrating. Once we were finally at our table, we then had to wait another 40 minutes before the cook came to prepare our meal. I understand that restaurants can get busy, especially during peak times, but this extended delay without any communication or apology from the hostess was disappointing.
Our cook was the bright spot of the evening—entertaining, engaging, and funny. He seasoned the food well and cooked the meats to perfection. Unfortunately, the star of any hibachi experience—the fried rice—was a major letdown. Quite honestly, it was the worst fried rice I've had at any Japanese restaurant, and I’ve visited dozens over the years. The rice was undercooked, hard, and unpleasant, as if it had been rushed due to a shortage or time constraints. It lacked the usual texture and flavor that typically defines a good hibachi meal.
Service-wise, the hostess left a poor impression. She seemed more focused on collecting payments and chatting with the waiters than welcoming guests or keeping anyone informed about wait times. When we arrived, her tone and body language made it seem as though she’d have preferred we left rather than wait. There was no real apology or effort to manage expectations, and that lack of care contributed to the overall disappointment. Our waiter did apologize as did our cook which was appreciated, but the hostess needs to appreciate all customers and not select ones.
In the end, we spent a considerable amount of money on what turned out to be a subpar experience. While the meats were good and the cook did his best, a hibachi meal falls flat when the fried rice is bad—it’s supposed to be the centerpiece of the meal, and here it was anything but.
I cannot recommend Kabuki based on this experience, especially if the restaurant is busy. If you’re considering a visit, I strongly suggest trying on a slower day—hopefully then the kitchen and front-of-house staff will be more attentive and the food quality will meet expectations.
Food was good, but not special.
Older place, but food and service was on point. I would suggest checking it out if in the area.
