Old Heidelberg Restaurant

Been here several times. Really enjoy the traditional food and they put on entertainment during oktobetfest. My husband really enjoys the beer! Recommended to try if you haven't.

First time here and wow — everything was amazing! We ordered the Zigeuner Goulash, Schweinshaxe, and sausage sampler — all super delicious! The chocolate mousse cake was out of this world 😍🍫 Plus, they had live music this Sunday! We’ll 100% be back 🎶

The food and atmosphere at Old Heidelberg is fantastic. I enjoyed the Jaeger Schnitzel, but the Goulash has me absolutely returning! Delicious!!!!

Nice place, super good food, good drinks. The best Schnitzel in area.

Why 1 star? Let me explain. The place is dirty, a lot of dust around, a lot of tables are oily from previous guests same as the bar corners. Now, the carpet. The carpet should be removed immediately. Whole place stinks like mold and cat pee. And you guys know, that any animal smell can produce ammonia later, which is dangerous for anyone

To say so, place is good. Maintenance is bad. Maybe this review will drag attention of the owners or whoever runs the place.

I have been going to this restaurant for 35 years. It’s been at least 15 years since I was there. The woman upfront was nice and sort of friendly. She seated us at a nice table with tablecloth and nice cutlery. The server was very friendly and helpful. She made our experience enjoyable. We all enjoyed the salad plate which included coleslaw, pickled cucumbers, and a salad. For appetizers, we got the sausage platter and potato latkes. The potato latkes really did not have any texture. They were flat and sort of bland. Not what I’m used to seeing. The sausage plate was nice. The bread was good. Three of us ordered Jaeger schnitzel which comes with spaetzle. The chicken was good. The gravy was also good. It was a generous portion. It came with a side of red cabbage. It was good, but not great. I remember it being much darker red, but the taste was good. The spaetzle looks like spaghetti. It was not at all how it should have looked or tasted. There was no butter sauce or any type of flavor. That was very disappointing. We all looked forward to having apple strudel, but there was none ready for us to order which was a huge disappointment and so we left without dessert. I did some research and found out this restaurant had changed owners at some point since I was there last. It is still a nice restaurant, but does not have the environment that we are used to. Normally on a Thursday night that restaurant would have been full of people And even a reservation would have been challenging. There was almost no tables in the restaurant with patrons. I think maybe a total of four or five tables including us. I don’t recall German music being played, which was always played before. Also, previously they would every hour or so stop and do a 123 in German toast And they have life music. Neither of these things occurred. Not a bad restaurant, but I think the environment could be improved. It didn’t feel fun anymore. Also, I did witness a very unpleasant, Exchange between the manager and our server where she looked very mean and menacing towards our server. Not sure what that was about, but certainly was not appropriate. Finally, the restaurant needs a thorough cleaning, including the carpeting. There was dust on the chandeliers and the room did not look or smell clean. With a little effort, this restaurant could become the shining star. It has always been. I did have the Oktoberfest Amber beer and that was absolutely delicious.

I’ve celebrated four birthdays here and have been on several other occasions, the food has always been good, the beer cold and the environment very enjoyable. If you enjoy good German food i highly recommend. Try the strudel it’s great, but runs out quick so make to order early, lol.

We visited Old Heidelberg based on reviews. Please read until the end before deciding whether or not to go, because there are unique circumstances in this case. As a man who lived in Germany and has German grandparents, I'm always looking for a great German restaurant local here in South Florida. I had reason to be down in the Fort Lauderdale area for work conference and met up with some associates there. We all love German food and German beer so we made our way to Old Heidelberg. Let me start by saying the atmosphere of the place is stellar. It could literally be any German restaurant in Germany. Now we have the good part over with. My service was the worst I've ever had in my entire life. I mean in any restaurant, ever! I later learned the server had been there only a couple of weeks, but I'm fairly sure she was on some type of drugs. Not one single portion of our order was correct except for our Potato Cakes Appetizer. We had ordered four appetizers, it was the only one that made it to the table. Then the lady added a sharing fee. The reason we were sharing the appetizer, it's because the others never arrived. We also did not receive four out of four salads ordered and no entree was correct when it arrived. Additionally, our beers were not correct when they arrived either. I was so Furious that I've waited the better part of a month before writing this review in order to calm down. We were billed for things we never received and billed for things we never ordered. I watched three tables get up and leave after drinks were served because she couldn't even get water right! The only reason this is not a one-star review is because the nice German lady who owns the place did make all the corrections on the bill and apologized profusely. I'm hoping she has gotten rid of her problem child employee. We were a perspective customer that would have sat there for several hours and had a few beers together and likely had a $700 tab between food and beverage on four people. Instead, we paid our $150 and left. As I mentioned, the German proprietor, and the fact that she cared is the only reason this review isn't worse. What food we did get tasted good although it was not what we ordered at all.. I will add photos below. I do believe in second chances, and I do suspect that this place is way better and then the rating I'm giving it and my experience. But I have to write reviews honestly off of the experience I had.. hopefully one day I'll get the opportunity to visit again and edit this review.

Best German food in the area. Schnitzel rivals what I had when I lived in Berlin! Awesome authentic atmosphere and they are super friendly and welcoming to our service dog. Spaetzle and red cabbage very authentic!!
