Pita Mikol Halev is a new Israeli (Glatt, ORB) restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, located on 818 West of Dania at 3411 Griffin Rd. The restaurant is frequented by a large Sephardic Syrian Orthodox community, which consists mainly of expat regular orthodox Israelis; thus, the clientele is not predominantly US Hasidim or Haredi. The owner, Adi, is a Persian/Mizrahi Israeli, and the flavors of the dishes reflect that. The menu is minimal, with a clear focus on shawarma. I ordered the “Kebab” pita, which is a massive sandwich stuffed with two hamburger-shaped spicy kofte kabab patties. The bread is imported from Israel, and although I assume it is frozen pre-baked, it tastes good. Adi also offered me a taste of his homemade falafel mix, which was fried to order right in front of me and was very well seasoned with lots of cumin and cilantro. The rice and beans were also well seasoned, and even Adi wasn't sure what was in them, but they tasted great. I think I tasted some curry, but I'm not entirely sure about it. Don't overlook rice and beans when you visit Israeli restaurants. The restaurant also serves a type of French-style bread, which they call “Baguette.” They grill the bread and stuff it with whatever you want, but the most popular way to eat it is with boneless grilled chicken thighs (Pargiyot).Although the restaurant looks fairly spartan and may have been an entertainment/catering venue at some point, it is a big place with leftover DJ loudspeakers in the back. Adi mentioned that they plan to offer evening entertainment at some point.
