Mel's Diner - Fort Myers

This was our first time dining in at Mel’s. I have to say that service was good, but the food was disappointing! I treated some friends and family who came in from out of town a couple of weeks ago. I had my heart set on the rib eye, but they were sold out. The waitress recommended the NY Strip, so I ordered that. It was so tough I couldn’t eat it, so I took it home to my dog! My friend ordered the key lime grouper, and was disappointed as well. The grouper was a pink color, so we asked one of the servers if it was indeed grouper. He assured it was and said it’s a different cut of grouper, that’s why it wasn’t white. It tasted more like salmon or tuna! My son-in-law ordered the Reuben and couldn’t even finish it because he said it didn’t taste good. My husband wasn’t happy with what he ordered either- a burger and bbq chicken- the chicken was a tender with bbq sauce and the burger was just a patty. Not to mention, there was some kind of ladies event and they were so loud we couldn’t even hear ourselves talk. I spent over $140 and in my opinion it was a waste of money. We would’ve been better off going to Texas Roadhouse, or somewhere else! Not sure if we’ll be back!

This was the only restaurant near the hotel that I was at. I went and had dinner over My limit for food, that I ate because there was no where else to go. The food was delicious but I couldn't eat it, because it was cooked too long after I asked not to be fried so crunchy. The salad was full of brown lettuce but like I said I was starving and no where else to eat. Service was okay but as I leave this review the price was to high for what I ate. So next time I go u will stick to my usual, a burger via takeout

I love giving great reviews and very much dislike giving a not so good one. Wish I could post a picture here of the disappointing food that was delivered to me. I’ve been a restaurant manager for 12+ years. I would never allow my staff to serve what I got. Was my 1st time ever having Mel’s. Definitely no need to do that again. Better quality control is a must here and some better managers managing. Regardless if it’s dine in or to go. Disappointed.

Cute decor, quiet atmosphere, clean restaurant and friendly service. I had the open face Hot Turkey sandwich with fries. It was good for the price. Quick, cheap lunch! I would definitely return.

I have a medical diet. The cook came to my table to make sure everything would be cooked perfectly and it was. Coco is awesome! She sat with me and made me feel like family. Customers have been eating there for 25+ years.

Dietary restrictions: The chef can cook meat with no seasonings. They cooked eggs in olive oil instead of butter for me.
I ate there 3 times in one week. I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner on 3 different days.

My wife and I went for a very late lunch on a Saturday. We were seated quickly by a very personable host, sorry I don't remember his name, and greeted by our server Kimberly promptly. Our food was ready quickly and made to order. I marked it down based on the overall quality of food, and some needed cleaning/updates to the dining room. The bathrooms on the other hand are quite clean and updated too. I don't consider 4 stars a bad review, and please note, the service is 5 stars hands down.
