If you’re thinking about treating yourself at Eckles Jamaican Restaurant, don’t make the same mistake I did—especially not on your birthday.

I walked in expecting a solid Jamaican meal—jerk chicken, rice, a cold Red Stripe… something worth spending money on. What I got instead was straight-up disrespect on a plate. They handed me a box that looked like leftovers scraped from the bottom of the pot—nothing but bones sitting on top of dry, bland rice. Not “jerk chicken”—more like jerk remains.

The cornbread? Soggy, lifeless, like it had been sitting in humidity all day. And the collard greens were the worst part—straight-up tasted off, like they were on the edge of going bad or already there. One bite was enough to question everything coming out of that kitchen.

For a place that’s supposed to represent bold, flavorful Jamaican food, this was just sad. No seasoning punch, no care in the portion, and definitely no pride in what they served. It felt like they saw a customer and decided “good enough” instead of actually delivering a proper meal.

On my birthday, no less.

If you’re hungry and expecting real Caribbean flavor, you’re better off going literally anywhere else. This wasn’t just disappointing—it was a waste of money and a complete letdown.

Horrible horrible horrible I just bought a jerk chicken and the jerk season was not even cooked in the chicken it was thick on top never again highly wouldn’t recommend

This is my second time giving this place a try. My husband and I are disappointed. Complete waste of money, couldn't even finish the food this time, it was that bad for both of us. Won't be back.

Eckle's let me down today. I ordered the large Oxtail and it had so much fat. I understand that they also have to sell the fatty pieces, but please don't give me every single piece with fat. The meat to fat ratio was pretty much 50/50.

Their jerk option is not jerk its not even spicy it is oxtail sauce shouldn't even be on the menu

I looked in the other day and there were no vegetarian protein options. Especially tragic since ital food is such a part of the culture.
