The Bavarian's Wirtshaus

Last month, August 24th, 2025, my husband and I just happened to drive by The Bavarian’s Wirtshaus and were surprised to see this restaurant. We lived in Germany for 2 1/2 years in 1990 and loved living there. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and had reservations at another restaurant until we saw This authentic, German restaurant. We cancelled our reservation and went to the Wirtshaus instead. We are so glad we did; the food was wonderful—just like we remembered from our time living in that beautiful country. I had jaeger schnitzel and my husband had zigeuner schnitzel. The staff was upbeat and the atmosphere so relaxed. Our server brought us a desert on the haus—hot apple strudel with real whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. The next time we’re in town, we plan to visit again. Thank you Bavarian’s Wirtshaus for making our 40th memorable! ❤️

I’m from Virginia, we come down to Destin every year and every year I come here. The food is delicious hands down. Love it love it! Thank yal and I’ll keep coming back!!

The food was authentic and delicious, and the staff are funny and friendly. Good German beer offerings too.

Maybe the best German food I've found outside of Germany. Rahm schnitzel is very good as is the Jagerschnitzel. The sides are very good and the apfel strudel is better than my Oma's! Great beer selection and the live German band is a nice touch!

I have MEVER had a bad experience here. I don't come as often as I should, but when I miss Germany, where I spent 10 years of my military career, I come here and eat, drink and feel good. Love this place. Number 6 in the US for best German food? Number 1 as far as I'm concerned.

There was a fun polka band the evening we were there. I had the pork schnitzel, noodles and gravy, red cabbage , apple strudel and a few wonderful beers…… this was a few years ago and we will be coming back soon !

The food (sausage sampler and jager schnitzel with spatzle, red cabbage, and sauerkraut) was delicious as in our previous visits to the restaurant. The live band was fun and lively. The service, however, was not great. Food was slow to arrive to the table and our waitress disappeared for exceedingly long periods. Even when another staff member brought part of our food order and questioned if we needed a refill of beer and another water, it took over 10 minutes to arrive. This was not the case with the wait staff servicing other tables in our section of the restaurant. The most frustrating part was the food taking so long to arrive and the waitress asking if we wanted a to-go box then removing part of the food you wanted to take home (1/2 an order curry wurst, some red cabbage and sauerkraut) and apparently giving it up for disposal. She did not bring them back in a box. Then when we brought up the missing food, the management believed an order of strudel is an acceptable substitute. Advice going forward, limp dessert is not the proper substitute for protein, especially good pig. Very disappointing end to an otherwise good meal. If you go there, guard your left overs!!!

Excellent food and great service. I had the Zigeuner schnitzel with red cabbage and potato salad. Delicious and authentic. Highly recommend!

Overall, positive experience and good food. Waitress was very attentive and nice. No draft beer but a good selection of bottled beer. We has 3 courses and all were good but not over the top as a memorable experience. The building and decor were German style of course with an open seating arrangement.
