This is a tiny little family run Cuban place, famous for its "Cuban Ice Cream Sandwich". I first tried it at Yelp's Disco event and I fell in love with it! My friends and I were looking for dessert at 10pm the other day and it was opened, so we stopped by to get their ice cream. The bocaditos is basically ice cream sandwiched between thin sugar cake. The "bread" of the sandwich are thin slices of cake with tiny sprinkle of sugar, and it is the sugar that brings it to another level! We ordered the chocolate, cookies and cream, and mango ice cream sandwiches. They are awesome! I would recommend to wait for the ice cream and cake to become softer before you eat them instead of right out of the freezer, it tastes MUCH better when it is softer. I just can't wait to go back and try other flavors of the bocaditos. The place is not huge, probably can fit about 10-12 people. Most people just walk in and take out instead of sitting in the restaurant. This place was quiet at night and it was next to a firearms store. So I would recommend not to come here alone at night, but come as a big group. Ice cream always tastes better if shared anyway. There is a private parking directly in front of it. The spots seem small and the entrances and exits required some precision turning, but parking is still quite convenient. The staff behind the counter was super friendly. And even though Spanish was clearly his primary language, I had no issues at all communicating my order. Although some people complains that the staff is disorganized, but hey it's Miami, just chill. He also gave us recommendations since it was our first time visiting the store. Solid service from a small shop! It is only $2 for one bocaditos! Yes, you read it right, only $2! What are you waiting for?

If you don't know it's there, you won't find it. It's hidden in a old gas station turned pawn shop. It seems to be know for two things, bocaditos (ice cream sandwiches) and Cuban pizza. We only had the ice cream and I had no idea what to expect, but that first bite of the dulce de leche was like nothing I've ever tasted before. The ice cream was delicious but the outside was like a sugary bread. We tried the cookies and cream which was great, and the strawberry one was very good too. Quick service and very clean and chill.

UPDATE: Stopped by for an after dinner bocadito de helado. Got here 5 minutes before closing and was not let in. The man inside looked at me, used hand gestures to signal that they were closed and he was counting the money, or whatever. I mouthed several times (in both English & Spanish) that they're open for 5 more minutes only to receive the hand gestures once again. This is the 2nd time I attempt to eat here and have been unsuccessful. I guess I'll have to keep buying my bocaditos at Winn-Dixie. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Was just at this location and found it closed despite the hours posted here stating they should be open. We were looking forward to enjoying a nice, refreshing bocadito de helado on this hot day and there was no sign of life other than several men sitting on the sidewalk outside. Disappointed as we enjoyed their location in Miami only to have that one close, too.

The place is a whole in a wall with not too much hygiene and barely no parking space BUT the pizzas are pretty good, not great. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the Bocaditos de Helado are so bomb. They tasted just the way I remembered from back in the day in Cuba. If you're looking for your childhood bocaditos de helado from Cuba, Tio Colo is definitely the place to go!

Unless you work in Hialeah and the local ice cream truck passes by your office everyday, it can be pretty hard to find a bocadito up in Miami!! These cuban ice cream sandwiches are simply scrumptious! The mango is my faaaavorite, slightly creamy but not too sweet or rich. Perfectly soft cookie sheets that form the sandwich bit with a little granulated sugar coating it. Hubby loves the dulce de leche, also not overly sweet for dulce. The naranja pina was okay for me. Couldnt do the strawberry, was very sweet but the kiddos liked it. Havent tried their cuban pizzas yet but the place still had customers coming in 30 mins til closing. Not the easiest place to "be" if you're not from the neighborhood and (if you dont already) you'll have to speak a bit of spanish but its just ice cream and pizza... but you can dooo it!

This is an unassuming location in a very industrial section of Hialeah. The restaurant is squeezed between a pawn shop and a tire repair facility. It's bare bones with just a few tables and chairs, nothing fancy here. But do not let that scare you away from the best Cuban pizza in Dade and Broward counties. At first the service was not as friendly as I expected. I asked what size the personal pizza was and was given an answer its a plate size. Ok plates vary in sizes what is your pizza size give me inches! Not a good first impression beyond the first hiccup the service turned out to be good. We were here for the pizza and ordered two personal pizzas. One chorizo and the other mixed $5.99 and $7.99 plus Iron Beers at $1.25 each. Not bad!!!! We received no instructions like have a seat I will bring it out etc... we took a seat and waited. The cook/waiter and only person working the restaurant soon after brought us utensils and asked what we would like something to drink. The pizzas arrived in around 7 to 10 minutes and they looked yummy. The chorizo pizza was full of flavor with the best crust I have ever tasted on a pizza. You could easily eat the dough and be happy. The mixed was a combination of three meats, It too was awesome, fresh tasting with just the right mix of ingredients and tomato sauce. I struck up a conversation with the line worker and he told me the dough was made fresh every day and all ingredients are fresh. Cuban pizza really does not have a big crust it was similar to a deep dish pizza but oh so much better. We enjoyed Tío Colo and I I'll be back to visit often. Note to owner: look I get the bare bones approach to keeping prices down, but there are a few things lacking in the restaurant that are easy fixes. Cut a round piece of cardboard the size of your pizzas, mark it personal pizza and the other family size. Place it visible to give the guest an idea of the sizes, saying the pizza is the size of a dish is not customer friendly nor accurate. The location here is not optimal, you have a great product that deserves more exposure and a little nicer restaurant.
