The food is good, the lady in the front is rude and talks about people that order pick up. Food is good but the service is terrible. I wouldn't recommend unless you order a delivery to avoid the workers

Once one of the best restaurants in the MIA/Fort Lauderdale area - this restaurant has tragically declined with the departure of the old chefs and the coming of the new chef. I am severely disappointed by the bland, flavorless, spiceless food. I used to drive hours for this restaurant but not anymore.

they should hire more stuff. they don't come to your table to ask how are we doing and they serve you like they are paying for you.

The lady was super unprofessional and rude. Sima was the worker’s name. I was picking up food for door dash. She was sassing me & yelling at me and another dasher. Sima was on a personal phone call and told us to wait until she was done with her personal call. Terrible service. Had no order in system and very uninterested to get the order going. Told us to get out of the store and walked away after we did nothing wrong.

Came to dine in with family on Sunday for halwa puri. We called around 1 and they confirmed there was halwa puri. We got there around 2:30 and we were informed that it was all done. We drove from an hour away. The server was working all by herself and could clearly tell she was overwhelmed, which caused her to have an attitude. I went in and rang the bell and my kids did it as well. When she came i greeted her and apologized for the kids ringing the bell another time after I rang it, and was greeted with a "sigh" and " you here to pick up?" The owner needs to invest in getting more help and informing individuals on the phone if any items are running low aswell.

Food 5/5: Since the first time I tried their food about 6 years ago their chicken biryani has always been and continues to be fantastic. The portion size for the biryani is very generous. It can easily feed 2 hungry people. The blend of flavors and seasoning they put in it make this my absolute favorite biryani I’ve ever tried anywhere. Ellie’s is the only place I’m happy driving 30+ minutes just to order chicken biryani and golab jamun.
Service 2/5: The service is unfortunately the most lacking area of dining at Ellie’s. I went during a pretty busy evening where at least 4 tables all had families dining in. It takes a while from the time you order until you get your food (around 40 minutes). The waitress was unable to check in on me to see if I needed some more water or extra chutney sauce due to the restaurant being severely understaffed. During that busy day there was only 1 waitress who had to take orders, take phone orders, clean tables, serve, bring the food out from the back, and one cook I believe. You can’t physically manage a full restaurant with only two employees. The poor waitress and chef can only do so much to attend to everyone and all responsibilities. The waitress works very hard going back and forth, but she definitely needs some assistance. If the manager simply hired one other waiter/waitress it would make a tremendous difference. It takes a long time after being seated to get your order taken. I don’t blame the staff for this issue, its very clearly a management issue. By not hiring the staff they need, they think they are saving money - but the service is driving customers away. Its honestly a miracle that the chef is able to pump out such delicious food despite the managerial limitations.
Atmosphere 5/5: The restaurant itself is very clean and has a pleasant interior design.

Overall: This is a great restaurant with fantastic food. I 100% recommend you order their chicken biryani. Just understand that if there are alot of customers, then expect to wait some time for the order to arrive. If they can solve their short-staff issue they would be phenomenal. Whoever manages the restaurant needs to find a way to have at least 2 waiters / floor staff to tend to all the different tasks. There’s only so much 1 waiter/waitress can do in an almost full restaurant.

Unfortunately, my recent experience at Ellie's Desi Kitchen was disappointing, particularly due to the discriminatory service we received. While waiting to be served, I observed a clear difference in how our party (including two young children under 5) was treated compared to other guests.

The server repeatedly avoided taking our order for 15 minutes while promptly serving groups who arrived after us. This forced me to place our order through their online system. When the server finally approached us 10 minutes later, she seemed annoyed that we had ordered online, despite her earlier unavailability. She later left our order slip on the table to serve other guests who hadn't requested assistance.

The food took exceptionally long - children's meals arrived after 40 minutes, and adult meals took an hour. We only received our food after speaking with management. Most concerning was observing the same server providing attentive, gracious service to other parties while displaying visible reluctance to serve our table.

While the food quality wasn't an issue, the discriminatory service and excessive wait times, especially with hungry young children, made for an unpleasant dining experience. I hope management addresses these service consistency issues, as every customer deserves equal treatment.

Kid-friendliness: Parents with young children should be cautious about dining here. While they do offer a kids' menu with familiar options, our experience with two hungry children under 5 was frustrating. Despite having children at our table, we waited 40 minutes just to receive the kids' meals - an unreasonable time for young, hungry children during regular dinner hours.

The server showed little concern for the fact that we had small children waiting for food, repeatedly prioritizing other tables and avoiding our section. We had to advocate strongly through management just to get our children's meals. Even after explaining we had hungry kids, there was no attempt to expedite or prioritize their orders.

If you do visit with children, I strongly recommend:

-Coming during off-peak hours
-Ordering ahead online
-Bringing snacks as backup
-Being prepared to speak with management if needed

While the kids' food itself was decent when it finally arrived, the lengthy wait times and indifferent service make this a challenging choice for families with young children. There are more family-friendly establishments in the area that better understand the needs of dining with little ones.

I would have given zero rating but had no option. The grilled chicken shawarma was stale and tasteless. The chicken was extremely bad & they did not even bother to wrap it correctly i just opened it and sauce fell off. Very disappointed waste of money.
