MASHED POTATOES WERE DISGUSTING. When I went to the bathroom and then out the front door no one that had left the restaurant had finished their food on their plates. My wife and I could not finish ours either because it wasn't fit to eat. Beware.

Shiney was super attentive, checking on us frequently and offering coffee refills. We come here often and she is always upbeat and friendly. She’s one of the reasons we come to the Hen House.

Scrambled eggs appeared to be from a liquid mix, the pancake had no flavor and wasn't fluffy, sort of flat, home fries had no seasoning, hash browns were partially raw. It took 45 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. So we definitely won't return.

Finally found a place that has fresh hash browns. Lived here 5 years and just found this place...gonna have to make up for lost time. This hole in the wall is a gem.

Cute little local place to stop in and eat if your in town or just passing by. Food was decent and service was fine. I just personally wouldn't recommend the broccoli & Cheddar soup but everything else we tried was decent.

My wife encourages me to meet my buddies at the Hen House Cafe because she says it's far less expensive than a psychotherapist. If she detects that the “blues” is creeping in (these days usually due to what's happening worldwide) she says, “Don't you think you ought to go to the Hen House?” I'm always in a great mood when I return home. The social interaction is a life-saver for this 85-year-old Air Force veteran and retired geoscientist.
The food is not my highest priority. Instead, I go mainly for the fellowship and the opportunity to make new friends. On the other hand, the food is satisfying and the atmosphere is great. I don't need to be the center of the universe and I enjoy learning from and sharing with others. Since early 2014 I have enjoyed the Hen House environment. I've seen how hard the employees and the owners work and I know how tough restaurant business can be. I don't know how the waitresses maintain their energy levels and their fun personalities. I know that they have bad days just like everyone else. Their jobs are far from easy. My guess is that they are very tired at the end of their shifts. I think one of the reasons we get along so well with those hard workers is that we appreciate them and have genuine concern for them. None of those in our group suffer from “terminal uniqueness” and we are understanding if something doesn't go quite right. In instances when that happens, they cheerfully do their best to make sure that things turn out well for us.
Currently I am sad over the departure of a terrific waitress and wonderful lady, Pam. I am very much hoping that circumstances are such that she will be able to return. There have been times when Pam, like the other waitresses, has made my day usually by providing some source of healthy laughter which is so very therapeutic. At times her genuine and sincere greetings have snapped me right out of some negative vibe I happened to carry in with me that day. "Special" is not an adequate enough word to describe her.
At the Hen House I can drop in, meet a friend or friends, eat a tasty meal and then sit around and shoot the breeze until closing time if I want to. Nobody chases us out and we are not ignored once we finish our meals. The coffee gets topped off often if that's our thing. For the most part other customers I've met there are terrific. It's a fun and friendly place where my faith in humanity is bolstered.
Parking: I like the diagonal parking on the street because it reduces the probability of someone next to you hitting your vehicle with their door. If those spaces are occupied, there is a free parking lot a very short block away to the north and also across the street from the restaurant near a government building.
