Shima is an excellent sushi restaurant to enjoy. We own a fine dining restaurant and are always looking for decent spots to patronize. All the sushi we got were top notch. We would definitely go back for that. The desserts need a little more influence by the chef for asian cuisine. I've never seen cheesecake at sushi restaurants in Asia. That's kind of weird. Also we ordered the bao bun tacos with spider crab, my wife really enjoyed these. If you push your bao bun tacos harder advertising-wise you could generate faster and stronger business. This is the new hot thing. I would either take the wagyu off the menu or change how its prepared (slightly thicker cuts to temp). You get 5 small sticks with strips of meat cut so thin, you really can't tell if you are eating wagyu or just regular beef. - my advice for the chef. Mochi on the dessert menu would be bomb.

As someone who has traveled to Japan and eats out a lot with Japanese born friends, I don’t usually order poke bowls but tried it here since I’m not a roll person. The salmon poke bowl was delicious. Generous amounts of buttery salmon and the rice was cooked very well. I’m a sushi rice snob. My only suggestion is that they have more aburi (torched) style selections for nigiri.

Checked out the new sushi restaurant @shimaislamorada ! Chef Junior, a local experienced restaurant European, along with Drew Tsang, brings fresh Japanese dishes to the keys, highlighting local fish. The welcoming energetic vibe the sushi bar crew (Junior and Jack) made the visit extra fun! And if sake or wine is your thing, you'll find an impressive wine list with prices ranging from casual to oh-you-so-fancy!
I highly recommend the Wahoo Crudo, Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Island Crunch Futomaki, Smoked Grouper Sashimi 🍣
The homemade desserts looked next level delicious, too!

This place is absolutely incredible. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is a work of art and they clearly put a lot of effort and care into everything they make.
I have celiac disease and they were very knowledgeable about what I could and couldn't eat. They were so accommodating, they made many gluten free substitutions for me and nothing was lacking in flavor. So often I will go out for sushi at other places and anything gluten free is boring and pretty lame. But this place was so tasty and gorgeously presented. What an absolute treat!
