Murray Hillbilly - Vegan Restaurant

This is a fully-vegan restaurant which makes ordering easy. You don't need to worry about asking for substitutions like you would at a mixed-diet restaurant. Staff are also very friendly and helpful. Their burgers are delicious. I asked for the house burger patty on my Smokestack burger combo and I have no regrets about choosing it over their regular meat-substitute option (which I believe was Impossible or Beyond). Their wings are great, too, probably the best vegan wings I've had in a restaurant. They're even served on bamboo chute "bones" for authenticity. The cookies were great as well, a little chewy but a little crispy at the same time. We arrived when there were few customers and I'm not sure if that was a factor, but we got our food really, really quickly. I was very impressed. The overall atmosphere was very inviting and given they have so many great-looking options for dinner and dessert, I hope to return soon.

I love these zero frills, hole in the wall spots. The less a graphic designer has had anything to do with menu, the better it’s going to be. My burger (the Scorcher) had a really nice char on it and the fries were piping hot. Auto tip suggests 20% minimum though there is no table service. Updated from previous review on 2025-07-23

Can’t drive through Jacksonville without stopping here! It never disappoints!

My husband and I are visiting the area and we found this place listed on Happy Cow. We were so surprised and pleased with everything down to the absolute welcoming customer service and mouth watering food. We live about 2.5 hours away but WILL come back to eat here.

We stopped here on our way through Jacksonville and are so glad we did. We ordered the "wings" with Carolina Gold Bar-B-Q sauce and the "shrimp" basket. Both of us got the slaw. Everything was AMAZING! The "wings" have an edible sugar cane stick and had a wonderful smoky char on them. My husband's "shrimp" we're almost too close to the real thing. You might honestly think you're not at a 100% vegan place. We got the "bacon cheddar" and "chicken" biscuit to go For breakfast the next morning. We will definitely be back if in the area again! 🤤 While some folks complained about the atmosphere, we enjoyed the rustic vibe as it reminded us of a punk rock club which we found super fun!

Saturday March 22nd, Noon. Who ever you have on the phones (male speaker), take them off completely. Worst customer service experience I've ever had. They mixed up my order and told my courier to take a different bag and the store acts like I was the problem for inquiring.

My kid and I really like this place, the staff are nice and when we had first went there, they were helpful with recommendation and giving samples to some items. The place is inviting you can play a game while you wait or as you eat. Its cozy and welcoming.

So far we've tried the pickle fries, fried chick’n fries, cookies, mac-cheeze, spicy chick’n burger and sandwich., cold slaw, cut fries, smoke burger, shrimp basket.

My only thing is the price is a bit high on some of the items especially with smaller portion, and sometimes the food might be over seasoned with salt, oily or overcooked (burnt). In which if you say something they'll most likely fix it.

I like how they have a news letter that gives you discount and promotional updates.

I recommend this place often.

I live a bit far so it’s hard to go as much as I would like, but every single time I order from Murray hillbilly it’s incredible and worth the wait. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious. I love u Murray hillbilly

The food is incredible. Had the Git 'er Done with mac n cheeze. By far the best vegan mac and cheese I've had. A nice smokey and peppery flavor. The burger was delicious and filling. Will absolutely be back to try other menu items.

I remember trying Murray Hillbilly MANY years ago but went back today! My dad (not vegan) agreed that this is the best vegan burger around. Had the spicy vegan chicken sandwich…amazing !! Need to go back here more when I’m in town

Now usually I would have gave 5 stars but that’s just on the buffalo chicken sandwich and fries that I stick to and will always stick to from now on . Yesterday , my wife and I had a burger craving so it was a toss up between Burgerfi and Murray Hillbilly but we are trying to stay away from beyond patty meat so we decided to go more vegan style approved. OMG the fries were the best part of the burger meal because the amount of salt they put in the burgers is extremely luring you to contracting diabetes from it . We had two separate burgers one being the bacon ranch burger with tempeh bacon which the bacon just tasted like the took their Chickun and put liquid smoke on it and said *BAM! Backn Done”! Haha . Then the other burger was a hill Billy whopper and when I tell you they both had more salt than a herring fish 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤨🤣😔🤨
