Otaki Japanese Steakhouse Jacksonville

Special dietary was not remembered or served correctly for two people at our hibachi table. When questioned, the server spoke to the woman, not the man who had the issue. The woman replied that the man was an adult, so the server should ask him. The server raised her voice to tell him what she believed he ordered. There was no question about incorrect order or correcting it. Just public humiliation. Then the server brought the bill with a 20 percent tip already in it. We were not a large group, so that should not have happened. Also, there was a space asking for an additional tip. Not one person was available on our way out to even discuss it. The chef only spoke when verifying the order, which we already know wasn’t correct. We all go there for the show, except not really much of a show this time. It was someone in our party’s first time there. Certainly not a stellar example. So sad. Used to be a favorite.

Beware if you have allergies. I mentioned that my son had a shellfish allergy prior to making reservation. I mentioned when we sat down that the grill looked dirty and requested twice for it to be cleaned. Prior to making the food, the cook cleaned with water. However, in hindsight, we realized that the towel and probably the scrub brush was used for multiple grills. The utensils were also just wiped off with a towel. Unfortunately, immediately afterwards, my son threw up all over the parking lot. His face swelled and he had to use liquid benedryl to help stop the reaction. Fortunately, he didn’t actually consume shellfish and it was just a cross-contamination or we would have had to use the EpiPen and spend the rest of the night in the ER. We informed the restaurant and they just gave us a bag in case he threw up again in the car.

This was my favorite restaurant in Jax. But, the waiter decided to add a 20% gratuity to the total. We were only a party of two, and this typically applies to parties of more than 4. Be sure to check your tickets. He did this to everyone at the table. We will not be revisiting anytime soon. Likewise, he only checked our drinks once.

Fantastic and our chef Tommy was the best. The food was the best hibachi I've had anywhere in Jacksonville and I've lived here for 15 years!!

Typical hibachi steakhouse. Chef was great. Server was great. Food was pretty much horrible.

Got the shrimp tempura appetizer. Never had such horrible tempura. Batter was very heavy. Never had a heavy tempura batter.

Steak is about the cheapest grade you can find and they're super-thin.

I hate to be this person but if I could give 0 stars I would. We had a large party of 15. From the moment we arrived the staff was rude and unaccommodating. They got our order wrong multiple times. The hibachi chef on our left was fantastic. But the one on the right was horrible. But interesting at all. And stopped doing all the tricks part way through. I honestly feel like I still could’ve given three stars if not for the SERVICE. I have never felt so disrespected in a restaurant in my life. The moment all the food was out they immediately brought checks and to go plates. I was floored. I’m a fast eater and the to go plates were out less than 5 minutes after the food. They came and were grabbing plates while we had just started eating and grabbed a cup I was using without asking. Like two or three waitresses moving SUPER fast so it was distracting. Honestly worst service I’ve ever received. We are a large group of color and were seated as far back as possible with a reservation which I didn’t like either. All the other reviews seem great. So hopefully I was a fluke. But I’m certainly not going again.

Food was good, cook was good… it just kind of upset me that they add 20% gratuity on every ticket even though it was just two of us. The staple another ticket on top of that one so you don’t see that they added it. Then ask for another 15-20% tip based off the total bill which… includes gratuity. I think that’s shady.
