Best BBQ in Jacksonville. Ribs were cooked perfectly, the smoked chicken salad side dish tasted great, and the baked beans were unlike any I'd ever had... almost like a dessert dish with a hint of cinnamon and apples flavor. This will definitely be one of my favorite spots when I'm in Jacksonville. The meats did not need sauce, but I tried their combined sauce (city sauce) & loved it. It was was off the charts good!

Bought a whole slab of ribs for $30 and it was amazing, the ribs were very tender juicy and Smokey better than Jenkins hands down!

Love the laid back atmosphere with the picnic tables and the garden, very relaxed. The lady who took our order was exceptionally friendly, like being served by your mama. The food was the star of the show though!!! Such LARGE portions, and the pulled pork was phenomenal..... the ribs were large, juicy and full of flavor.... the baked beans have a special twist, almost tasted like sweet potatoes, give them a try!!
On the sign it reads open on Sunday but no one was there, I got recommended by someone and was really wanting to try the ribs I heard so much about but it was closed and there was no sign Indicating it was

Arlington’s best bbq in the area. Melvin the owner is such a blessing to the community. I stopped by tonight to get some food, but he was closed. He came by and explained the business hours then decided to serve me anyways which was on the house. I appreciate the kind gesture and just want to spread the word to try his food. The smoked chicken w/ Mac and baked beans is so good. The greens are great as well along with the sauces.

Smoke in the City is by far the best barbecue in Jacksonville and the surrounding area. Its unassuming truck on University doesn't prepare you for the perfection you'll find. The ribs are moist, meaty, and have a well-balanced smoke and rub flavor. Don't forget the cinnamon baked beans which could almost substitute as a dessert!

I'm so full and I have half of everything left over for later. To me, street food always hits differently. I'll take BBQ from a guy with a smoker on the side of the road over any brick-and-mortar joint. This place has been around for decades and it's still good! I hadn't Been here in well over 10 years. From now on, If I get a hankering for BBQ Thursday-Sunday, this is where I'll be. Ambiance: It's a grassy lot with a few picnic tables for those who can't wait to eat and choose not to eat in their cars like I did. You order from a very pleasant lady sitting under a little tent in front of the truck and once your food is ready it will be handed down to her through the window or brought out to you by the gentleman preparing your order. I ordered a chicken and rib combo, and for sides, I chose collard greens (they're savory, not the weird sweet greens some places serve) and Mac n cheese. I enjoyed it all! Serving sizes are adequate as well...I didn't finish any of it. And the City Punch is so good! It's a little sweet for me but I drank it down! LolJust seems like good people serving good food, I love it!
