“My family tried Chef Lu’s a few years ago and we got healthier and were able to get inspiration for meals... After, the quarantine and still carrying around these extra pounds we decided to give Slim Tastes another go! So far the food has been amazing! Chicken Marsala insane, lasagna the best and my kids love the kids meal!!! I am beyond thrilled to be eating healthy saving money and not have to worry about dishes and cleaning pots and pans! Chef Lu is the best!“

“I’d seen the sign at a nearby strip mall and tried it yesterday for the first time. The pizzas are Cuban style dinner- plate size with a savory crust that is not too thin or too thick and many toppings to choose from. The service is perfect and the owner came out and spoke to us and we pleasantly discovered that his restaurants are named for a once important and productive sugar plantation (Central Zaza) of his native region of Cuba. I’ll be returning and shall recommend this place to others.“

“We just received a catered lunch from Cafeteria Miami and it was amazing!!! The price was phenomenal, very reasonable and the food was so delicious. We had jasmine rice with chicken breast in a creamy mushrooms sauce, fried plantains and mixed green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Super flavorful, fresh and perfectly prepared. Ordering was super easy and the staff was incredibly kind and professional. Highly recommend for catering or just everyday meals.“

“I just got back from vacation and needed some real food. I knew there was a new cafe by the area and decided to try it.Food: I had the lechon asado with rice , red beans And plantains. It was phenomenal , delicious and fresh. I can't wait to try more from their menu.Atmosphere: it is small but very welcoming , clean , nice and comfortable. To make it better they had playing jazz music. For me sometimes going to eat somewhere to eat and I hear the radio or whatever they're and it becomes repetitive. “Delicious! What you see is what you get, simple and yummy. Monica was super sweet! It is a Spanish speaking place, so be prepared if you do not. They are right by Miami airport, and well worth the stop. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for a quick Cuban or Venezuelan dish. It’s just breakfast and lunch, along with coffee and sweets. It’s definitely a place to come back to time and time again!“

“I stopped by The Latin Corner and it was a solid experience overall. The spot has a laid-back, authentic vibe tucked inside Cauley Square, which makes it feel a little hidden gem. The food came out fresh, flavorful, and well-portioned—exactly what you’d expect from a good local Latin cafeteria.

Service was friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they take pride in taking care of their customers. Prices are very reasonable too, especially for the quality you’re getting.

To top it off, they surprised us with a free Cuban coffee colada on the house at the end, which was a great touch and honestly made the whole visit even better.

“This cafe is located inside a commercial building project and is a hidden gem. The food is so good it feels like you're eating at your "abuelitas" house. A must try is the wraps, bowls, soups and their authentic Cuban food.“

“This is definitely a must try place their Dubai chocolate pistachio Gelato is amazing. Creamy without being too rich, an overpowering.The nutella gelato is also delicious. The lady who waited on us was very sweet. I had originally was going to order dark chocolate gelato with pistachio gelato because I had not seen the Dubai chocolate one. When I saw that, I decided that I really wanted that and instead of what I asked her to do was put a little scoop of that on top. She said, if you really want the Dubai 0I'll change it out for you. Other places might not do that, but she went out of her way and made a whole new fresh one after she had just mixed 2 other ones. She decided to give me what I really wanted to eat. I have to say she went out of her way to make me happy. Which not many places do once you order and did it is already being made. You definitely have to try this place even the vibe inside sitting here is just so cozy and comfortable.“

“I have had a very good experience with 8th street so far. The food is quite enjoyable, though its highlights are split between the vast salad bar and the unique, varied, and delectable pastries. If you aren't willing to eat some veggies, you're going to be a bit more disappointed. They do have burgers, fries, hotdogs, and whatnot but those greasy fast-food options are rather limited. Most complex Pizza toppings you're getting are some chicken. Though you can work with what is around you. The service there is very lovely.

For staying fit, or occasionally splurging it is a very attractive option. Even if you don't like what the specials for the salad bar, you can always make yourself a nice sandwich with what is available.

The atmosphere isn't the point of the kitchen though. It's meant to feed a good portion of a college, not be a fine dining restaurant. Not any nice and isolated seats for you? You're just going to have to ask a stranger if you can eat next to them.

That said, the place is fairly clean, I have not seen a single bug in my several days of repeated visits, and the only spots that might be slightly dirty are the tables, where there may be a stray lettuce on the rare occasion. No stains or splotches of disgusting sauce anywhere.

The music might be a tad loud for me. I like to keep my ears healthy. I'd maybe turn it down 3-5%. It can make it a little difficult to converse. Though the music is only on in the evening from what I've seen.

My main complaint though is there is nowhere to wash your hands. I get not having bathrooms in 8th street and instead having it right outside the restaurant, but I would like to have somewhere to wash my hands. There's also a sign that says to wash the fruits, even though staff wash them, but I can't find where to wash them.

All said and done, I am more than satisfied with the utilitarian purpose 8th street sets out with to equip FIU students with convenient healthy food.“
