We ate at the cafe upstairs and loved the small plates so you can try more. We had a 45 minute wait so instead of standing around, we sat at the deck where you could order drinks which was really nice. Great atmosphere with the waves in the background.

Dear Manager,
I am writing to formally express my deep concern regarding the experience my husband and I had last night at your restaurant, Louis Backyard.
My husband, who is 65 years old, was seated in a small area on the upper level that had poor lighting and an unexpected elevation in the floor. Due to these unsafe conditions, he tripped very forcefully and was visibly shaken. He left limping, and today he woke up with a significant headache and physical discomfort. What was most upsetting was that no staff member approached us to offer assistance, show concern, or even acknowledge what had happened.
During this moment, I tried to find something to help clean him, but there was no staff available. The waitress had disappeared, and the manager was nowhere to be found. It felt as though the staff was more concerned with closing the restaurant than with the well-being of their guests.
Additionally, the overall service was disappointing. My husband did not finish his drink, which was of very poor quality, and my dinner plate was removed without my permission while I was still eating. This added to the feeling of being rushed and disrespected.
This experience was not only unpleasant but also concerning from a safety standpoint. Proper lighting and attention to floor level changes are essential, especially for older guests. Equally important is the responsibility of staff to respond with care and professionalism when an incident occurs.

We came here after many friends recommended it, and it was such a beautiful and romantic experience. Perfect for a date night, with a lovely atmosphere and stunning ocean views. The food was very good, but the real highlight is the ambiance — it’s a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the moment. Highly recommended.

This place had it all: fine dining, an outdoor bar overlooking the water and a small plate bar on the second floor.
And the food is amazing. I had the Sautéed Gulf Shrimp with Bacon, Mushrooms & Stoneground Grits. The flavors in this dish are so good. They give you plenty of shrimp and mushrooms, as well as green beans. The bacon adds the perfect amount of salt. I'm not that fond of grits, but these were very good.
I had the louies lemonade, which was tart and refreshing.
For dessert I had the Basque cheese cake with Sherry Caramel and candied maroon almonds. It was delicious.
I highly recommend Louies.

Louie’s is an iconic spot in Key West. Situated right on the ocean with access to a small beach, have drinks on the beautiful deck under the hanging palm trees. The deck bar drinks are poured well and served fresh. We enjoyed a green salad and snapper sandwich which were delicious.

For many years this restaurant has been one of my favorite places on earth.
The food is absolutely delicious but the atmosphere is questionable. It is a house and it’s pretty cramped and there was only one waiter who was checking people in serving and getting people’s orders and being the bartender so I think they need more staff so if you wanna wait about an hour and 30 minutes for food, you can.

We visited January 2026 on a Friday night. Nice ambience and place. The nice manager actually suggested to move our table to a quieter outside spot which was great and without us asking. The food was ok but my wife ordered the NY Steak with a horseradish crusting which was more of a sauce and it had a very funky taste and smell. I kept smelling is to try to figure out if it was spoiled or something. I had the shrimp and grits which was OK. Maybe a bad rare order but sorry to report that it was not our best meal. Even the key lime pie was far from the best we had in KW. We are not complainers and I rarely would leave negative feedback. The place is nice, with a great view and I expected better from the other reviews I saw, but perhaps just an off night?
