Breakfast at Southernmost Cafe’ has always been great. I have been there many times during the last 25 years.
Unfortunately, this past Monday was very disappointing.
The breakfast menu offer “Corn Beef Hash” at $17. I normally really like corn beef hash. This was NOT the case this time. The bowl arrived with two eggs on top. Under the eggs, there was only “red” corn beef in big chunks. Absolutely disgusting. No required potatoes, and not mixed in small pieces. This was nothing anyone wants for breakfast, not even for St. Patricks Day.
It was NOT “Corn Beef Hash”.
Upon complaining, the excuse was “we make our own”? What?
It was not a standard Corn Beef Hash, nothing even close to it.
We were 3 persons ordering the same, and we all were very disappointed. One persons dish was omitted from the bill.
I suggest that the Chef of the Cafe’, visit an American Diner and order Corn Beef Hash, and learn how to cook this dish correctly.
Otherwise take this off the menu.
It is sad to be so disappointed with the cafe’. May be my last visit to this restaurant.

We absolutely love coming here every time we’re in Key West — it’s one of our must-stop spots! This visit started a little rough when the Caesar salad came out with stale croutons, but the staff couldn’t have handled it better. They immediately made a fresh one, and it ended up being the best Caesar salad we’ve ever had — perfectly crisp, creamy, and balanced. The executive chef himself brought it out to check on us and make sure everything was right, which says a lot about how much they care.
Every visit reminds us why this place is one of our favorites — the food, the service, and the kindness behind it all. Highly recommend!

The ambience of having the cafe right on beach was nice and relaxing. The hostess was welcoming and attentive but the server was less than expected. She seemed like she didn't want to be there and barely checked on us through out dinner. She came to fill waters and spilt water all over the floor because she was dragging it beside her leg and never cleaned it up. Food was so so, I had the shrimp Alfredo and my husband had porkchop.
Great place service a little slow but nog bad esp for key West standards. My steak was good but the Bernaise sauce looked like it can from a can. My wife's Salmon was good served with the skin with all the sauce on the skin so that when you removed the skin you had no sauce but overall a very good dinner oh by the way they will charge you to bring bread to the table which was a little irritating but might be done because people like to feed the chickens bread
Unfortunately the seaweed had come in and was pulled up on the beach, so the stench took away from the ambiance. Plus there was a large party who thought the entire place was theirs. Food on the other hand was really good. Would come back when the seaweed isn't so bad
So disappointed, the calamari was so rubbery, my Cesar salad was really disappointing, the view was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the food was really disappointing
Food was fine. Service excellent. Price very reasonable. The cafe overlooks a beach that was being landscaped and there was a mild stench coming from the mud. Otherwise, the ambiance was fine- including the roosters walking around waiting for table scraps. Would go again without hesitation.
Fantastic food! Service lacked a little in friendly-ness. The beach was COVERED in grass which emitted an awful odor. We got used to it and powered through. But I'd call ahead to inquire about the beach before committing to a reservation.

Good food and service. The restaurant is on the south beach which was partly covered with a foot or more of very stinky sargassum. The stench is very bad and ruins the dinning experience. I wouldn't eat there until the sargassum is removed and the beach is kept clean.
Good food, good atmosphere, convenient location if you're staying at the hotel! There was never really a wait time and every seat in the house has a good view. Would eat here again!
Our waiter Brandon, took our order and brought the check. That is all. Other staff brought out boxes. I had to get my own salt and pepper. Our drinks were never refilled or even offered a refill. The med rare steak was overcooked to medium well. And we had a pigeon on our table while we were eating.
We always order the lobster pizza which is delicious. One is enough for two to share. I do however always order the conch fritters which also are delicious.
We recently dined at the Southern Beach Cafe and were thoroughly impressed with the food. The Seafood Paella dish for two was expertly prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented, it was truly a highlight. The staff was attentive, elevating the overall experience. However, the atmosphere took a hit due to unpleasant graffiti on the outdoor view, which detracted from the ambiance. Some indoor areas could also use a fresh coat of paint to brighten things up. Additionally, the bathrooms were underwhelming and could benefit from significant upgrades to match the quality of the dining experience. Despite these issues, the exceptional cuisine makes this spot worth visiting, and I hope these aesthetic and facility concerns are addressed to complement the stellar food.
