While I was visiting winter haven for a concert at the historical ritz I decided to visit what I was told the oldest gay bar in Florida. Locals in Winterhaven did notify me that it is a hole in the wall, but does bring a decent crowd on a Friday and Saturday, since it was a Friday night I decided to take the 18 minute drive by Uber to go visit. When I arrived, it did look like a dive bar from the outside. Main entrance is through the back. It was a five dollar cover and definitely not worth paying for. I was one of eight people there in mind you it was 10:30ish. The drag show was supposed to be at 11:15pm and it only had two performance. It is now 1130 and they did their best to entertain the six people that were left to watch the performances. I finished my drink and called an Uber. At this point it is just after midnight which would be a normal busy time for a gay bar/club but not this one. It’s honestly a shame that if it’s true that they are the oldest gay bought in Florida that they do not have any business or better decoration or better performers. Maybe because of EDC Orlando happening they were not busy. But this club is in Lakeland. Not trying to diss the club, but that’s just my experience for this particular night.

The Parrot is amazing. Rich and his amazing staff exceed all expectations. Great shows, awesome karaoke and music with DJ Blayze Andy, Shane, and Mike serve you up with phenomenal cocktails. If you are looking for a great place to be with friends or make a few new one, The Parrot is the place to be!!

The first time I went it was ok, nothing amazing, but not bad. A week later some local drag queens that my friends and I like were performing so we went. I have a chronic health condition and a service dog to make sure that when I have flare ups I’ll be ok. The first time I visited I was fine so he stayed at home, but I had a few flare ups before the second time so I brought my service dog. They turned the three of us away and would not let me enter. They said they would not let the dog in and claimed that the dog would not be comfortable in the environment (he is a service dog, he’s trained for that environment), that it would be too loud for the dog (who is a service dog and has been to drag shows before), and then they just said that they didn’t want him in there. I never expected for a place that was supposed to be accepting to actually turn me away because of my disability.

Had such a great time at The Parrot! As the oldest gay bar in Lakeland, it really lives up to its reputation. The ambience was fun and inviting, and the drinks hit the spot. Huge shoutout to our bartenders Shane and Mike they were incredibly welcoming and made the experience even better. Loved the music, and the restroom was impressively clean (which says a lot!). Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to.
