I was very disappointed with the UNPROFESSIONAL nature of this shop. To begin, I am an out of state bride trying to plan a destination wedding. This fact alone adds a new level of stress to wedding planning. The sole owner of this At Home Bake Shop, Barbara, came recommended to me by my vendor. Our conversation began with me asking whether or not she used natural ingredients. She stated that everything she made was from scratch and all natural. I liked this! So we went on to discuss the date, number of people, what flavors I was looking for, etc. She proceeded to give me a quote of $125 for 6" tier with an 8" bottom and $150 for a 8" tier with a 10" . Again, reasonable...liking her more and more already! She then asks me to email her pictures of what 'look' I want my cake to have and what flavors I am ultimately leaning towards. When she responds, based on the fact that I want 'premium flavors' the price is jumping to $200 and $250 respectively. Obviously that is a huge leap from what she quoted me on the phone. She then tried to tell me that I never told her I wanted a lemon cake, which is how the whole conversation came about discussing whether or not she used real lemon juice or flavorings. I responded via email and explained that $200 was out of my budget and asked what I could do to get the price back down towards her original phone quote of $125. In reply, she completely dismissed me and was extremely rude. Now, I could have let it go...and just moved on...but I called to ask if I had somehow offended her. She said that I did. I had not understood that 'ruffles' to her and meant piping to me. But regardless, I apologized to her and explained that was not my intent, and that I could tell from her email back to me that she was upset. She ended up being snooty on the phone and rather than try and work with me...just quickly dismissed me and said that she already had another wedding for the same day (a Sunday) and could no longer help me. Wow is all I can say....! How she came recommended...I don't know?!
