I found another nice spot that serves authentic Trinidadian food. Located in the Oakland Shopping Center, this large restaurant definitely has the feel of the West Indies with such a casual and relaxing vibe. After overlooking the menu, I greeted a friendly male employee and placed an order for a double with tamarind & cucumber chutney and trini style Chinese chicken with lo mein and fried rice.

Watching the steady flow of people coming in automatically told me that the food here was good, such as:
* Roti meals/various roti shells
* Doubles/aloo pie/phoulorie/various bakes
* Lunch specials/specialty items/vegetarian dishes
There's also homemade sweets, juices, ice cream, split channa, Caribbean beverages, local & imported beers, and cocktails. Prices are reasonable, and they cater.

My food was brought to me and I couldn't wait to partake. I started with the double which was very good. The bara had a nice texture and the flavors of both chutneys with the curried channa were delightful, but the most enjoyable dish for me was the Chinese chicken with lo mein and fried rice. The fusion of Chinese and Trinidad flavors absolutely blew my mind, and the chicken was tender and flavorful...wasn't too peppery.

Before leaving, I got another double to take home along with some phoulourie. I am looking forward to coming back, especially during their lunch special hours.

What in the canned goods happened!!!!
To start, I’m American. Black - American. I was not born or even visited Trinidad, but what I am is a foodie…and for me this place disappointed. This was my 2nd visit. 1st visit, I wasn’t impressed with the curry shrimp roti (buss out). It was more salty than flavorful. In comparison to Joy’s Roti which I absolutely love! Anyhow, a few weeks back during Carnival I was introduced to Bake and Shark and looove it! I got it from a vendor. It was absolutely delicious! They made it with all the toppings including Cole slaw and pineapples (I skipped the onions and Cole slaw). Fast forward I had a craving for more. Singh had it on the menu so I thought I would try. I thought maybe this order would be better. Nope. Major FAIL! The sandwich was very big but when I went to eat, it was missing all the wonderful toppings that I was craving. So I go back and ask if they have pineapple, they said, “yes”. So I waited 12 minutes for pineapple. Yes 12 whole minutes. ?I wasn’t happy. I was told, “ they are cutting up the pineapple.” When they finally came out with the pineapple, it was obviously canned pineapple and microwaved. ? By this time, I was mad and hungry. Not only did they insult my intelligence, they flat out lied about why it took so long. I was so hungry I wanted to throw it back in their face and demand my money back. But I kept cool, threw the pineapples in the trash on my way out and got it my car. When I got home, threw the Bake and Shark aside and ate the Doubles. It was my 1st time so I have nothing to compare. It was flavorful but mushy. I absolutely won’t be returning to Singh. Even though the serving staff were friendly and polite. I recommend, Joys Roti Restaurant. They don’t bake and shark but everything on the menu is delicious!

Stopped at the Chinese bbq takeout in the same strip center. Looking for a lunch on a quiet Friday midday. Nice, big restaurant with tables in & out. Counter Service with a full Trinidadian menu! Went for the roti stuffed with seasoned potato & the lunch $7.50 special consisting of sautéed chicken with rice & noodles, a nice sized portion. Place your order then they will bring you your food at the table. Clean, nice music, attentive service. The food was good not fantastic but a great Trini/Indian/ chinese fusion menu! Give it a try!

Dhal puri double was fantastic. Love trini peeps and their food!! Not an atmosphere place! But come for a bite and you will love the food.

Bonus - you get to watch cricket on tv. The owner looks like a fan.

Taking goat curry home. Wait for the update folks!!

Update on 9/9/24 as promised. Take out goat curry and roti was delightful. Goat was tender. Spice was just right. Not too much not too little. Chickpeas and Aloo (potatoes) were good sidekicks to the goat curry!

You’ve exceeded expectations Mr. Singh! Now I need to read “A house for Mr Biswas” and my Trini discovery will commence.

Underwhelmed. I really wanted to try this place and finally got a chance to do so today ? I am so disappointed I got chicken and regular doubles they were the worst I have ever had very mussy and lack flavor we had to dump them, I also got duck and chicken roti they weren't too bad I had much better, the one thing I can say is there pone is out of this world so good. But I won't buy anything from there again.

I absolutely love the food and people here. Very consistent and they have great lunch specials. But 5 doubles, and by the 6th one for FREE!
Only reason why I didn't leave a 5 star review is that no matter what, call in your order in advance or place your order in person, they will always be LATE! I just don't understand. Can't comprehend because the food is always already made. At least 30-40 mins.

I will give a 4 average. I orders a goat roti, it was the size of a small baby, lots of meat and the curry was ok, the Dali puri was great. A+. My son enjoyed the doubles, I did not taste it. Pulorie my son’s choice, I had one without the sauce and it was good. The Chinese chicken with fried rice and lo mein was a complete disaster. The rice was over cooked, the chicken under cooked. I came home and put in the over to finish cooking.. suggestion take it off the menu it’s horrible. Also for the roti, doubles and pillories they gave me. 1 tiny cup of pepper sauce, just charge more and give me freaking pepper sauce.
