Four of us had dinner tonight. This was our first chance to try La Mesa as we're only occasional visitors to Marco.
Highs: our server was so kind, helpful, and friendly. She really made the meal a fun experience. The chips are homemade. And I asked for their "hot" salsa. Excellent. Others said the enchiladas were very good. And the margs were $6.50 tonight (Tues) - they were fine - not amazing. I tried 3 tacos: carne asade, barbacoa and birria. All very good.
Lows: none at all.
We ate at a table but the bar area is cool and the whole restaurant features an outdoor vibe due to the huge doors that open.
Did I mention the abuelita in the back making fresh tortillas?
Loved La Mesa. Will be back.

It is a great place for a Mexican treat. We tried it for he first time this week. The place is clean and bright. The comfortable outdoor seating also provides access to a bags (cornhole to you heathens) game. They sell their own tequila and will make guacamole at your table to your specs (we did not try this, but it looked great). The food was great. We tried birria, shrimp, crispy fish, and chicken tacos. All were delicious. An overstuffed chicken burrito was also great. It was spicy without being overpowering. The chips and salsa appetizer alone would make me come back again and again to try all other chip based dishes. The margaritas are top tier. The sangria offerings are also a tremendous choice. I liked the tropical better than the traditional, but both were a joy to drink. Our server K.C. was personable, funny, and had great advice. Well done La Mesa!! Nosotros volveramos!!
The food quality was poor, and it didn’t taste good. Definitely overpriced for what you get.

My wife and I walked down to try this restaurant. September 28 which is in slow season. We have a condo on Marco for 15 years and frequent almost all the places to eat from time to time. I've never complained before "ever" but felt compelled to leave a review for the first time. Both the fish and shrimp tacos were bland at best. Tasted like they were frozen... definitely not fresh. I'm a big eater and would eat almost anything but this was not worth eating. It's a good thing that the chips and salsa were good. Waitress could care less. The manager comped 20% but we never saw anyone. Waitress just dropped the bill on the table. Terrible, Terrible service and food. Two stars is generous. Maybe you should close your doors during slow season.

So glad we ignored the negative reviews about this place! I think some folks have no idea what true Mexican cuisine actually is!! Everything we ordered was so delicious. The Salsas, guacamole, queso were all spot on and the house made chips were so fresh and crunchy. Delicious! Our entrees were equally as delicious, taco trio and barbacoa burrito. The assortment of authentic cocktails was great, too. The Paloma was exceptional! As for the service, from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed and felt as if they were waiting just for us. The host was wonderful. Our server, J, was amazing!! She really enhanced our dining experience with her knowledge of the menu and her friendly, positive attitude. Thanks, J!! Now, for the atmosphere!! Loved it!! We arrived just past sunset and the lighting was spectacular! Every element of the decor was so well thought out and beautiful. We loved the ceiling light fixtures as well as the individual table lights. The color scheme and and decor accents were just right. Such a beautiful space. We've been coming to Marco for over 35 years and are thrilled to finally have some restaurants that serve more than just fried fresh and French fries!! We can't wait to return to this new and delicious restaurant!!

Everything was amazing here! Much needed addition to the island. High quality food, Jameson was amazing. Would absolutely recommend checking out La Mesa!
While the service was quick and the inside looked nice, I would not recommend eating at this restaurant. For starters, the parking lot is too cramped and difficult to navigate with any vehicle of meaningful size. As for the meal, the chicken was dry and bland, the rice was tasteless, the tortillas were too thick, and it was odd to me that chips and salsa were not included with your meal (they charge $5 for them). While the ice cream tasted good, the crust for fried ice cream was soggy and chewy instead of being crispy and flaky. The only good part of our meal was the queso and the frozen margaritas. My family vacations in Marco every year, and we will not be returning to La Mesa for a second try.
