All the wait staff are very nice but don’t seem to be attentive. Sat for a while at counter before anyone offered coffee. Had to fly someone down for refill but they are all congregating behind counter and chatting.

The food. We had several items from the menu and all were served on as hot plate but the food was warm at best. The loaded home fries were ruined by the over abundance of extremely strong scallions. A few sprinkled on top would have been fine but it was overkill. Maybe a particularly strong scallion but it was inedible.

Loved the food. Got shrimp and grits, gator gumbo and pork chop and eggs. And also had to make an order of pancakes. The coffee was good, not dark, burned or bitter.

Ate here this morning and we are extremely happy. Can't wait to come back for breakfast! Best place around. Great crispy thick bacon, xtra crispy home fries and butter toasted English muffin. Husband had a great omelette. Can't wait to try other dishes here in the near future. Service is awesome!

Blackwater's is a nice place with a different slant to breakfast. They have tables with griddles in the center to allow you to fry your own pancakes. For a very reasonable $7, you get a 12 oz squeeze container with batter, which will make three 12 in plate sized pancakes. There are 4 different varieties to choose from: buttermilk, vegan, gluten free, and seasonal, which today was apple cinnamon. You can get other toppings and add-ins, like blueberries or chocolate chips for an additional price. There is also a full breakfast menu with the Backwater spin, like waffles and fried gator bites or chicken, and a lunch menu. The only downfall to the restaurant seemed to be their pricing of the add-ons for pancakes. Look at the menu and you see a side of bacon, sausage, or two eggs are $6 each. Home fries are $3.50 and toast $2. You get 2 slices of bacon for that $6. Yes, it's thick sliced and tasty, but a pound of thick sliced bacon gets you 10 pieces at a minimum, in some packs 12 to 14. That puts the bacon, somewhere in the $25 range a pound. I doubt the restaurant's paying that much for it. Then to boot, if you order the Southern Breakfast, you get your two eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries, and toast all for $13. That's a savings of $3 from a la carte. It's prices like this, that make us leary about going out to eat these days. Although, $13 is the typical price this morning for breakfast, I think if everybody took a hard look at how much it costs for their supplies that they buy in bulk, they could shave a couple dollars off the price, and they'd bring a few more customers in. Because words gets out that it's worthwhile venture. This would give them the funds to meet all their overhead requirements. So, shop wisely. Otherwise the experience and especially the wait staff are very nice.

Huge portions with Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free modifications for nearly everything on the menu. The server told me the home fries are cooked with gluten free items! I am confident that my meal won’t send me to the restroom all day. Pleasant servers who don’t bug you every 5 minutes. Now if only some thoughtless jerk hadn’t clogged up the ladies toilets…. grrrrrrrr.

Vegetarian options: Excellent variety of selections.

Dietary restrictions: Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian.

Fluffy gluten free pancakes and delicious thick bacon. They also had super yum vegan pancakes and sausage that my husband got. Def recommend this place. They also have tables where you can griddle your own pancakes but we didn’t do that because there was a longer wait and we prefer to have our food made lol

I am vegan and my mum has celiac disease (gluten-free) abd Backwater was an awesome place to have breakfast and accommodate both of our options. The waitress asked questions and offered suggestions based on our need. We both had omelets, mine of course was vegan (made with tofu scramble. There are no vegan cheese options) and a grapefruit-sage mimosa. Everything was delicious! The portion size was large and we said we wouldn't eat it all, but it was too tasty not to. There is seating with a griddle to make your own pancakes. They do have gluten-free and vegan options for the pancakes. They clean/wipe down the griddle after each party/guest leaves for the next folks to use. I will definitely come back to The Backwater the next time I am in the area.

Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options, and you can make vegan supplements.

YUMMMIEEE. Love the homage to Florida, atmosphere is amazing. We really need more restaurants like Backwater. Service was great. Wish I would’ve just ordered three sides of fried gator for my meal, it’s that good. Try the corn muffin too!

Backwater has some of the best vegan breakfast options around. Tofu scramble, veggie bacon and sausage, and pancakes. They are known for their "cook your own" pancakes on your table with a griddle in the middle, however. Kids seem to love it!

I've been ordering takeout from here for a few years now. Breakfast is always great! Serving sizes are huge!
I'm glad to have them up the street from the office. Kids love the griddle tables as well when we do dine in.
