We come from Daytona Beach just to eat at El Chico in Melbourne. Delicious food and wonderful staff. Carla & Marcia are long- term gems. El Caballero and sopapillas are a must every time. And don’t forget the carrots/ jalapeños/ onion relish with buttered flour tortillas. Would eat here every day if we lived closer!!
El Chico Mexican Restaurant 1751 Evans Rd., Melbourne, FL 32904 3 Stars (chain restaurant review) With origins dating back to a Texas county fair in 1926, El Chico Mexican Restaurant has been around for quite a while. In 1926, Alelaida “Mama” Cuellar's tamales were a massive hit at the county fair. Two years later, they opened their first restaurant in Kaufman, TX. The 11th opened in Six Flags Over Texas and is credited with introducing Mexican food to the American masses. In 1940, Mama Cuellar's children opened the first El Chico Cafe in Dallas, TX. Susan was my outstanding service professional for the meal. I asked Susan for an order of their Chorizo Tacos, a Grande Pollo Burrito and a side of chips and salsa. Susan brought my order out in no time and after snapping a few pics, I got to work. I always wonder if cooks smell the ingredients before they start using them OR do they smell them, realize they are not so fresh anymore, and think the dining public won't notice? Either way, this cook deserves strong jobation for this dish. The Chorizo meat was not good; it wasn't rancid, but if you opened the walk-in, I wouldn't be surprised if it was seen beating up the tomatoes as it was undoubtedly turning bad. Moving on to the Grande Pollo Burrito – the hero of this meal. Even though the chicken was a tad on the rubbery side (my guess is heated up in the microwave, but I could be wrong), the rice, beans and other fillings were excellent. While a bit chewy, the chicken was fajita-flavored and served with a beautiful chipotle wine sauce. The rice was cooked to perfection and the frijoles rancheros were succulently seasoned. If the chicken hadn't been nuked, it would have been fantastic. This brings me to what passed as chips and salsa in this cuchara grasosa. Please look at that pic and tell me that's not a cup of ketchup with a smattering of spice sprinkled in. It sure as Texas didn't taste like salsa. The chips were OK, but the salsa was not. Big Boy says, “ 20 years ago, this was fantastic Tex-Mex. Today? Too much top-notch competition makes this yesterday's chimichangas.”

This restaurant is clean, the food is wonderful, and the staff is very friendly. Now, even if you don't consider yourself a "pie for dessert" kind of person... I highly recommend the Mexican Apple Pie. It might just change your life.

On Saturday July 27, 2024 1:00 pm my wife and I went to this eatery ( lol) to have Mexican food. We were greeted by a women who was about 75 or 80 in age Latino looking women. The women was clearly rude from the very beginning of contact. I am Africa American my wife is Spanish. This very old rude women who looked like she didn’t take her medicine that day acknowledged my wife arguably because she had to for the business sake. She did not say hello to me, but rolled her OLD eyes at me three different times. I clearly understood ONE of this old ladies problems 1. She’s not happy with certain people’s nationalities????!!!! 2. She was hurt mentally by a man or lover women of a certain nationality, I don’t have a PHD so I’m not going to speculate any further. I truly recommend you take this old 79 plus year old women from the from greeting area and put her somewhere the public doesn’t have to see her or deal with her and her negative attitude and bad demeanor, she is definitely costing this company to lose money. I can bet you that many, many, many, other people and employees have the same complaint I’m writing about. Also I’m from Philadelphia PA and the food was ok but not Philadelphia PA food. Your company has to do something with that old rude women before it truly cost you a suite of some sort.
