My two sisters and I went in on a Thursday at 6:15 with no reservations. We were warmly welcomed at the host stand and told they could seat us at the bar. We asked the host who seated us what his favorite dishes are and he recommended the creamy polenta appetizer and the pork chop. We were then greeted at the bar by Maria who was friendly and extremely helpful. She recommended a few wines and dishes and we settled on the polenta appetizer, a salad to share then we shared the spaghetti pomodoro, the mushroom pasta and the pork chop. Everything was truly delicious and we would definitely return.

We loved everything about our dinner date at Macchialina. The food, the service, the wine selection, the ambiance. It is simply a top restaurant serving really tasty authentic Italian food. What else can be said!

Unlike my previous visit, this one was disappointing. While the menu does mention shallots, the normally creamy texture that comes from emulsified cheese and the distinctive pepper aroma were replaced by a dominant onion taste. The fish also tasted mostly of onion and was underwhelming — it came with only one side of the fish and no side dish. The two thin slices of mushroom and a couple of tiny pieces of mini zucchini were more of a garnish, although the menu made it sound like these would be an actual sides. The service was very friendly but not very attentive, and the noise level was high enough that it made for a less than pleasant experience, in spite of the lovely outdoor space. Given that I specifically asked the waiter whether it was easier to pay with cash or credit, and she said she preferred credit — and emphasized that gratuity was included — it would have been appropriate to mention the credit card fee as well. Overall, I left disappointed, with quite literally a taste of onion in my mouth. Perhaps I just chose the wrong dishes?
I went to Macchiolina in Miami Beach last Friday and felt completely rushed. The staff came over several times asking if we were ready to order before we’d even finished our drinks and appetizers. Once we ordered, the attention disappeared. Then came the bill — a 20% tip automatically added and a 3.5% credit card fee that was never mentioned. For rushed service and hidden charges, 20% feels excessive. I’ve never experienced anything like this in Miami. Definitely won’t be returning.
it’s past its prime / used to be so good / just removed it from my recommendation list / was wondering why it was so easy to get a reservation with only an hour notice on a friday night / now we know why 😳

Terrible service. Took them 40 minutes to sit us even though we had a reservation. Service was extremely slow and food was ok. 20% tip is included even though they were undeserving of any tip, and they charge a 3% credit card fee on top of that. Never returning.

The food was acceptable and the service was fine, but they charged me an extra 3% for paying with a card, which was never mentioned beforehand. That’s not a transparent practice — if there’s an extra fee, it should be clearly disclosed to customers before ordering

The food was absolutely AMAZING! We ordered the bruschetta with prosciutto di Parma along with several other dishes, and everything was excellent.
That said, the service was disappointing. Once we received our entrées, it took a long time before anyone came by to check on us or see if we wanted another round of drinks. After finishing our meals, we waited about 15 minutes before someone finally asked if we wanted dessert. When we declined, it was another 10–15 minutes before we even received the check. After that, we waited another 10 minutes before giving up and walking over to the register ourselves to pay and leave.
Overall, the food was outstanding, but the service needs serious improvement. Since gratuity is automatically included, perhaps that explains why the service felt just “okay.”

This is literally my favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. Pasta is made in house. For the best experience, sit at the bar and ask for Maria!!!
