Closed. Either out of business or doing renovations.

we had the conch salad appetizer and it was marinated to perfection and fresh as can be ... the plantains that came with our tacos we’re actually ripe and the sea salt made that perfect sweet salt combo we all love... tacos were awesome... our first time there ... very good ... we will be back

I was disappointed on my first visit to Ricky's Canteen. First impressions are everything and our waitress was a young lady named Sara, who acted as though we had interrupted her afternoon nap. She reported they were out of Salmon, so my wife attempted to order a chicken based entry only to be told they were out of that too. So she settled for what they had available - a pork based entry. I attempted to order the pressed Cuban sandwich (ham & pork, swiss cheese & pickles), but was told they were out of ham as well. So I defaulted to what was available - a pork based entry. For a Friday lunch...not a good representation of how a successful restaurant should operate. Next, all drinks except water are canned or bottled - perhaps with the exception of on-tap beer. However, for a lunch a $4 unsweet tea is a bit much - we Floridians drink tea like water. Probably not a lot of return takers for that.

The food and the service are excellent I highly recommend this establishment. I go there a minimum of once a week to eat.

Food was yummy but nothing special. Food took awhile to come out and there was no one in the restaurant. Once we got our food I found hair in it. The bartender never said she was sorry and never sent over a manager. She didn't even comp my meal or glass of sangria. I reached out via email to the owner and never heard back. So for being a new restaurant it doesn't seem like they are very concerned about maintaining customers. It's a shame they have such poor customer service.

Great little place for meeting up. The best Sangria.

What a perfect way to spend a Sat afternoon. David, at the bar, was helpful and informative. His recommendations were spot on! Neat beer selection and unique menu items. Loved the bluesy music in the back-ground and kitchy decor. Can't wait to return!

Pro's: Friendly and prompt service on a slow day. Cold beer. Brussels sprouts are excellent. Cons: The quality of food does not fit in with the rest of canal street. All items you can grab at the store and cook at home. Ex: The chips, salsa, and guacamole all seem store bought. The meat was over cooked. Overall: If you want a quick drink and app on the cheap, this place is solid. If you're looking for a quality sit down dining experience, this may not be your place.

Excellent food and service. Prices on the average high end.I had the bikini sandwich and salad $7. Price excellent on that. Wife had a poke bowl $16. Excellent, plenty of tuna. 👍

Saturday night after walking around the Car Show on canal street we stopped at Ricky's canteen. Sat at the bar. Great live music playing. We got there right before seven. They have a 4-7 happy hour. I may get this wrong, but I believe it's 2 dollars off drinks and food. Also while live music is playing appetizers are B1G1. Also it's a beer and wine place - no alcohol. The bartender was great and very attentive. The live music was also great. Not too loud...but fun ! Wife had Sangria and I had the on draft beers. Sangria was delicious. For appetizers, we had the ahi tuna nachos and the empanada. Both were delicious. We did only get one small empanada ..which technically was free, but if I had to pay the $6, I would think they should at least have 2 or 3. For dinner, we each had one of their "hot poke" bowls. Wife had "the Ricky" and i had the "Redneck Islander". Both were delicious and the portion size was large. After the appetizers, we could have shared a bowl and been satisfied. Overall a great experience and will go back again ...

Vegetarian Friendly My favourite order... I call it, "The Dirty Vegetarian" Little Havana, street salad, kettle chips and my top 5 favourite dessert Ice cream sandwich mess. My first to go order was a disaster BUT when I called to complain the hostess was super helpful and actively asking questions to manager to help me out. They handled it gracefully. Mistakes happen. Love this place! I approve.

Nice little hole in the wall place! Good food and beyond excellent service. I tried one of the poke dishes, and being Hawaiian, I wouldn't really consider it poke. It was a good dish, but it did not have the poke flavor I grew up eating. My husband I enjoyed our for and drinks. Definitely try the vodka soda!
