Island Flavor Cafe

Just pulled up at 7:52pm on a Saturday. Hours say they close at 9. This is the second time I have come here and they are closed early. I have never tried their food. I was told it was good but can't ever get in to buy. Not sure I will keep trying.

Soup-er friendly and 100% Jamaican, Mon! when out of their way to get me some ice for my thermos on this 100° day….

Trash service

I went to this restaurant based on the reviews. The first impression was that the meat lace was clean. The people were friendly. I wasn’t sure about some of the options and the offered a free taste. I went last minute after coming from a wake and wanted to feed a good amount of people. The food was excellent. Everyone wanted to know where the food came from. Finger licking good.

Disappointed and Shocked as a Vegetarian

I was genuinely excited to visit Island Flavor Cafe in North Lauderdale for the first time, especially after hearing they had some vegetarian options. When I got to the counter, I told the woman helping me that it was my first time there and that I was strictly vegetarian. I asked if they had something like a veggie patty, and she said yes. So I went ahead and ordered one with a drink.

As I started eating, I was impressed by the flavor and spices until I noticed a meat-like texture that didn’t seem right. After taking a closer look, I realized the patty wasn’t vegetarian at all. It was chicken. I brought it to their attention but none of the employees would provide customer service properly or even think to ask me if i would like a refund. They were just occupied looking at the chicken patty they served me and seemed as if they were trying to throw it in the garbage and get rid of any evidence. After I asked for a refund, she refunded me $3 for the patty. But, the damage was already done.

I haven’t eaten meat in over 15 years, and I was extremely clear about being vegetarian. Of all things to mix up, handing me a chicken patty after I emphasized my dietary restriction is just unacceptable. It may have been an honest mistake. But it left me feeling disappointed, misled and honestly kind of sick.

If you’re vegetarian or have any dietary restrictions, be extra cautious. I really wanted to like this place but this experience made it hard for me to trust them with my food again.

Oxtail is very small pieces plus the girl wanted to charge me .75 for 1 pieces of plantain that's why I prefer to go other restaurants but I be trying give benefit of the doubts with these place i don't expect you to give me a portion size but 1 small piece of plantin is diabolical she couldn't even find the option in the register to charge me for 1 single piece of plantin lol so she asked her friend lol definitely not buying oxtail from this place you don't get your money worth !

The staff were so friendly and greeted me when I entered! I always judge a Jamaican place on their oxtail and they passed with flying colors. Their oxtail stew must've just popped out from the kitchen cuz it was full, fresh, and so so tender and juicy! I got the large for $20 and I was given a huge portion of food. Ate two meals out of it. The greens were so good too. I'd never seen so many seafood options in a place too and look forward to trying those the next time I go 😀

First time here, and I must say the food was delicious! So tasty and flavorful! Great service! I definitely will be back! My favorite was the brown stew chicken! 😋

This is the ONLY place in South Florida to get some of these delicious Caribbean vegan meals like the cabbage with chick peas. It is so healthy and delicious.

Love love love this place! Can’t say enough good things about this place. Food is delicious and good quality AND quantity. Customer service is awesome and very eager to help. Will always recommend this place to my friends and family. Curry chicken oxtail and brown stew chicken is what I’ve tried so far. All are yummy especially with a side of cabbage!
