Went to 18 South for a “dress up a bit” dinner and it felt like a real special-occasion spot. The room is classy and calm, and the service is the kind where they actually pay attention to timing and details. We did cocktails first, then ordered a mix of seafood and steak. Everything was plated nicely and tasted rich and fresh. A couple things took a little longer than expected, but nothing crazy. It’s not an everyday place, but for a date night or celebration, it hits.

Fabulous!!! I did not expect to find an establishment of such lofty caliber in central Florida, the home of horses and BBQ. I have reviewed hundreds of restaurants. The flavors I experienced at 18 South were among the very best from around the world. The elk I ordered rolled over my tongue with the texture and taste of pure pleasure. My wife’s filet mignon was more flavorful than the best aged chuletón steaks from the Basque or any hand cut Patagonian beef. My brother’s Chilean sea bass was the best he had ever tasted. The atmosphere of this distinguished third floor eatery is reminiscent of Great Gatsby like opulence. Despite 18 South’s high end appearance the staff displayed no evidence of pretentiousness. We were invited in by the hostess after standing nearby for hours to watch the “Light Up Ocala” festivities, in our casual wear. This is now our go-to restaurant in Ocala.

I had a retirement party reservation set for Friday night for a mentor of mine. As we arrived, we were told that no reservation was on the books.... immediately. Chris (the owner) informed me that the gentleman that handled my reservation was no longer with them and assured me that he would personally make sure that we had a special evening. he and his staff took over and put together a night to remember. The food was spectacular. The service was 5 star. And the memories will last a lifetime. Chris and the entire staff really knocked it out of the park. Thank you for taking care of us!

My Unforgettable Experience at 18 South on November 8th, I joined friends at 18 South to celebrate my bestfriend birthday. We were all in good spirits — laughter, stories, and that warm feeling that comes with sharing a meal with people you care about. Unfortunately, what should’ve been a simple night of celebration turned into one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I’ve ever had. When my food arrived, I immediately noticed something was off. The smell from my fish was overwhelming, so strong that everyone at the table commented on it before I even took a bite. Trying to be polite, I called our waiter over, explained the issue, and handed the plate back. I told her I’d take a moment to look over the menu and choose something else. A few minutes later, a man approached our table. I expected perhaps an apology or a quick resolution. Instead, he began yelling at me from across the table, shouting, “There’s nothing wrong with the fish!” Caught off guard, I tried to respond calmly, explaining again that the smell was unpleasant and had been noticed by everyone. But he continued yelling the same words — “There’s nothing wrong with the fish!” — growing louder and more defensive. Then he announced that he was the owner of the building. In that moment, I was stunned. Never in my life have I been yelled at by a grown man in a restaurant, especially over something as simple and solvable as a plate of food. It was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. I left feeling shaken and disappointed — not just by the food, but by how quickly a night meant for joy turned into one of frustration and disbelief. If there’s one takeaway from this experience, it’s that customer service and respect go hand in hand. Mistakes happen in restaurants all the time, but how they’re handled makes all the difference. Unfortunately, 18 South failed miserably on that front. I’ll never dine there again — and I sincerely hope others are treated with more kindness and professionalism than I was.

Absolutely epic. Im still shocked we had this experience in Ocala. I ordered a filet medium well (I know I know) and they butter basted it for 20 min. It was so moist. Chef visited the table to inspect.
Service with Austin was 11/10. It was our first night here and we will gladly be back! I had the filet and my husband had the lobster roll and loaded mash. Both entrees were outstanding! Love the atmosphere, as well. Great experience all around!

Went to 18 South for our 20th Anniversary tonight. Best steak (filet and rib eye) we’ve had in Florida. Also tried the Elk which was also excellent. Great service from our waiter Ashton. We also met the manager George who constantly came by to check on us. Chris, the owner and chef came by to make sure everything was great for us. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back with our friends.

If I can give -5 stars I would. My family and I went to this place, walked in, sat for MINUTES and not a single person greeted us or offered any service. On top of that there was only 1 bartender working and no waiting/hosting staff, and the location was pretty hidden. We left and will never come back here again.
