Ma Barker was a gang leader, a Public Enemy No. 1. She was the matriarch of an outlaw gang of brothers and allies engaged in kidnapping and in payroll, post-office, and bank robberies in the 1920s and '30s.On January 16, 1935 the feds swarmed a house in Ocklawaha Florida, resulting in a four-hour shootout. Other gang members had left the house three days prior, leaving Ma and Fred alone. Once the smoke cleared, both Ma and Fred were dead. The Ma Barkers Hideaway Bar is located nearby the famous FBI shootout of the Barker clan. This bar pays homage to the gang with old newspaper clippings on the wall and "Wanted: Dead or Alive" posters throughout. The bar features a genuine 1930s tommy gun for visitor poses. With a strong community presence, this cozy hideaway attracts both locals and tourists looking for a laid-back spot to relax and enjoy a beer.
