El Pegao Restaurant

I love looking for places that remind me of home; PR. Missing my island so much but the responsibility of family keeps me here. So, whenever I have a chance my mom and I venture out to local Boricua places in JAX. WE LOVED, the environment, very well decorated and the music was on point. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely reminded me of home. The food was great. My mom had a masposteao rice with a side of cuajitos and it was amazing. The cuajitos were very soft and melt in your mouth( not super chewing like other places). We loved it !!! The alcapuria and relleno de yuca were ok, definitely have tasted better. We ordered the soursop juice and passion fruit and they were great!!! We ordered mofongo and chicharon de Pollo to go and it was amazing!!! Overall a great experience. Definitely a great day out without the children in our lives. Thank you so much!!! ❤️ see you soon.

Excellent!

I had the pork chops with white rice, pink beans, and tostones, and everything was spot on. The pork chops were flavorful and cooked perfectly, the rice and beans were classic and comforting, and the tostones were crispy and fresh.

You can tell the food is made with care and real Puerto Rican flavor. Definitely coming. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican food.

Fue una tremenda experiencia. Buenísima comida, servicio bien bueno y con mucho cariño y la comida es perfecta. Compre mofongo con churrasco y mi esposo mofongo con carne frita. Y ambas comidas estuvieron exquisitas ☺️. Estuvimos buscando donde comer que no fuera la misma salida de siempre y este restaurante nos dio exactamente lo que buscábamos. Comida rica, precios completamente apropiados y atmósfera perfecta! Bien kids-friendly y se les nota como les gusta servir al cliente como si fuesen de la casa! Me encantó! Gracias por el buen trato y la comida riquísima ! Dios los bendiga !

The food was absolutely delicious! The moment we went inside, the smells were out of this world. We were warmly greeted and got great advice about what to order as first timers. We ordered the trifongo w shrimp and garlic sauce (amazing!) and trifongo w fried pork (the accompanying chicken stew broth and sauce were a great compliment). We also got the cream cheese flan. I’m a flan fan and it was the best I’ve ever had. The only downside was that we waited nearly 30 minutes for our food (and it wasn’t crowded). We know everything was made from scratch and to order but we weren’t expecting that delay. We’d go back in a heartbeat!

Por primera vez probé Cuajito y me gustó. El día estaba lluvioso y me cayó como anillo al dedo! Cada comida que pruebo me gusta más! Gracias chicos hasta la próxima!!!!

First timers and the food was amazing, owners were engaging, very nice and very helpful. Can’t believe how good it was. We will definitely be returning for our authentic Puerto Rico food cravings. 100% delicious

Placed an order through the too good to go app. Very excited to try it since I'd never heard of it before. I usually will use the good to go app to try different types of food that I'm not familiar with. Very disappointed. Received spaghetti and meatballs with mashed potatoes and beans and nasty wilted salad. I expected to receive Puerto Rican food since it is a Puerto Rican restaurant not sure how I ended up with spaghetti and meatballs. I imagine their actual food is good. BUT DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY IF ORDERING THROUGH THE TOO GOOD TO GO APP. You will not get anything good! But for $5 if you're hungry and last resort. Go for it. Just my experience!

You have to go here! WE LOVED IT!!! I heard about this place by accident, but I'm telling you it was not accident, the food is amazing!!! Chef Alameda is very talented and needs to be recognized for her true authentic and beautiful food of Puerto Rico. She shows her talent in sharing these flavorful recipes with all of us from her family. Thank you CHEF!!!
