I just returned from having dinner at Achiote. It was a pleasant dinner until I asked if I could order an additional salad to go. They said no. I was shocked, but I didn’t feel like protesting after having a pleasant dinner. But the more I thought about it, their refusal was not acceptable. I had gone to this restaurant about 50 times, since I’m a bachelor and I don’t cook. Many times withe a group of friends. That’s all.
Food is very good just prices are rather high for lunch.

Heavy on the mofungo on the menu. Not bad but just okay and pricey. $100 for 2 ppl for a small appetizer and 2 entrées.

Very salty shrimp in Creole sauce and horrible tostones. Rice and beans without flavor beans need cilantro. A very expensive and bad piña colada. Stay away ???

Point deduction for removing the mofongo relleno of churrasco and chimichurri sauce. Only serving it as alajillo and criollo…still good place tho.

I had the carne guisada. This was a big mistake.
My mother-in-law, God rest her soul was Puerto Rican & she was a great cook. She made every effort to slow cook the best cut of beef; you could have cut it with a butter knife, if you were so inclined. The great thickened beans she made were prepared from scratch.
I digress, the beans were in a watery liquid, possibly from a can. The beef was the wrong cut & tough. I'll tell you one thing; no one slaved over a hot stove to put this out.
The tiny pieces of potato & carrot were ok, but my server was very cordial.
I'll go back & try a different dish just as soon as this bad taste in my mouth goes away.
Stay tuned!
