“This was a fantastic show!! Incredible talent and so much fun!!“
“I was taken to the Disney World luau back in the 70s or early 80s, and really enjoyed it. I finally got to see that one again a few years ago, and left very disappointed. They sat us behind a post, and had changed what was a wonderful show in to more of a Disney story. Because of that, I wanted to see if the Universal version was closer to the experience I liked so much as a kid.
Having never seen this luau before, I cannot compare it to how it used to be. I expect it was even bigger and fancier when it stated, and has been cut back (like everything else) over the years.
That said, we both loved this presentation. It was much more of a "historian" presentation of the dances and customs of various islands.
Downside: buffer. I never cared for buffets (especially knowing how few guys wash their hands after leaving the public restrooms), and dislike them even more in this post-Covid world. But, the food was great, and it was well maintained. (Just try not to watch what kids take then put back. Ignorance is bliss.)
No poles to block the view! Though the seating at a table, turned sideways, is a bit odd. I would think seminar-style tables with everyone seated on one side might work better.
Service was EXCELLENT. The "bottomless" Mai Tai was truly that. Every few sips, someone refilled my glass. All. Night. Long. There was also a bar with beer and wine, included. Bonus.
The performers (five musicians, five dancers, and an M/C) were great. After the show, they pose in a group for photos. Nice touch.
Nitpicks: Before things started, we just had to wait outside in the sun and heat. They at least had water for us, and a few dancers came and taught some twirling and such. A better place to wait would be appreciated.
The stage lighting was also bad. The right side of the stage was dark. It looks like their stage lights need to be repositioned.
Unlike the modern Disney luau, we both agree we'd come back and do this one again.
Kudos to the crew we saw that night. It was a great experience. I will have hundreds of photos posted to my Park Hopping blog site, soon.“
