The Muddy Root Kava Cafe

Though The Muddy Root’s menu is already hard to beat, the real magic lies in the staff here. It doesn’t matter what day you come in; you’ll always be met by someone warm, welcoming, and ready to explain anything you’d like to know about their WIDE variety of menu items. If you’re not a kava or kratom person, this cafe offers a coffee and tea menu that’s highly customizable. Whatever you’re looking for- something sweet, something strong, something refreshing- the kavatenders (their “bartenders”) will always know how to make it happen. Even when my drink doesn’t taste right the first time (which rarely happens), the staff is beyond happy to add or substitute anything so that it’s just what I want. A literal 2-minute drive from UCF (and right between two major UCF apartments), this is an amazing study spot. Plenty of outlets and a variety of seating, plus free WiFi (after ordering). Plenty of students, professionals, and hobbyists work here, so it’s a productive environment. If you’re looking for a more social atmosphere, they also host social events all throughout the month, from trivia and AYCD kava nights to karaoke and even nature hikes! If I could rate The Muddy Root on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give them an 11. A definite must-try!

This was my first experience having kratom. Jude was so nice and helpful for picking the right option for me. He also was so nice and let me add some syrup to adjust the taste after getting it. The atmosphere was also very fun but chill. We played some of the board games they had available and had a fun time.

Such a comfy spot like your friend’s living room, if your friend made amazing drinks and had top-tier hospitality. Chance the Kavatender is a total gem. You’ll want to come back before you’ve even left.

My boyfriend Dennis and I visited Muddy Root Kava Bar while in the area! We were visiting from Brevard County (about an hour away), and we had a fantastic experience! The bar was super clean, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Christian, our kavatender, was absolutely amazing—so sweet, kind, and attentive. He made us feel right at home and added to the great vibes of the place. We will definitely be back again! Highly recommend checking this spot out if you’re in the area!

I had an amazing experience at Muddy Root Kava Bar! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The environment was perfect for unwinding, and the vibe was super chill. The employees were absolutely awesome, knowledgeable, and really made sure I had a great experience. It’s clear they care about their customers. Highly recommend Muddy Root for anyone looking to enjoy a laid back, enjoyable time with excellent service. I'll definitely be back! :)

Beware - kava may make you ill. A simple Google search will provide possible side effects, but staff did not mention this. The Kava caused vomiting and feeling unwell the remainder of the day.

Some of these reviews blow my mind. As someone who goes here quite often, whether that be with friends or alone, this is my favorite kava bar. I've tried a handful of other ones within the area (furthest was about 40 mins) and none of them have felt quite like this one. They have trivia nights, where each host brings a cool theme and spin to it, they've started doing their book club again, open mic nights, they had their talent show and 3 yr party recently. There is ALWAYS something fun going on. All of the kavatenders are friendly and know what they're talking about. If it's your first time having kava or Kratom, they always tell you to take it slow, as everyone will feel differently from it! Many of the kava tenders there are there nearly every day, and they really get to know you and recognize you and make you feel at home. Christian truly puts so much work into muddy, and hes a great friend who is happy to listen and offer advice to anyone who needs a shoulder to lean on. And they don't JUST serve kava and kratom, I LOVE their coffee. It does get pricey if you end up staying for hours like I do, but the best bang for your buck is coming during happy hour and getting a half gallon of a drink you know you enjoy. It's a great hangout spot, a great study spot, and ultimately a great place.
